They needed to upgrade it to stay ahead of the Camaro and to get it in line with the new engines that will be out with the second year of the model run. The new times should be interesting.

I didn't see curb weight mentioned in there at all. Any figures on that?

Nevermind, 20 pounds heavier now. Pretty modest weight gain for the miles of new wiring that must be in it for all the "features".

Some of that 20 pound increase in weight went to suspension improvements, some went to improvements to the cheap interior (just about everything is padded quality stuff now). The rest went to upgrades to the engine and drivetrain.

There is no "miles" of new wiring. Actually, I doubt there is any new "wiring".

20 pounds is a miniscule amount of weight gain.

40 horsepower is significant.

So is the axle ratio jump from 3.31 to 3.55.

The current car is hairy enough already. Can't wait to see the numbers this car does.

Why do they have to call it a Shelby still, just call it a Cobra like they use to and skip giving that guy $5k a car just to use his name. Bad *** looking car, I hope GM is in bussiness long enough to offer a counter to this.

I like it (actually I think it's better looking than the new Camaro - especially when factoring in the Camaro interior which I just can't ever get used to).

That is one mean looking 'stang.

...For the money, likely rather have a Vette though.

The Shelby name is marketing. People are willing to pay more for the history that name bears. The Shelby GT Mustang is essentially a Ford Morsports Mustang, with parts from their catalogue. They tack on the Shelby name and that $1000 or so worth of parts can be sold for $35 grand... about 10 more than a regular GT. Pretty much the same if GM paid the Yenko family 5 grand to use their name on a Camaro, people will pay disproportionate amounts of money to get one, and GM will sell enough to make a few dollars in the deal. Ditto an Earnhardt version.

By March, GM has to show they are viable since they now accepted federal money. I think GM will be fine, though they aren't out of the woods yet. Each country seems to be taking care of local GM operations, so GM is actually getting more than what they are getting from the Feds.

Although each government's stipulation is aimed at local cars, Germany's investment in GM helps Delta based cars since GM Europe (Opel) is responsible for all Delta car development. The Aussies have Zeta and a portion of Alpha. Canada tossed GM money since GM managed to get loans from the US. GM China is GM's bright spot. Daewoo apparently is doing well. GM Latin America is very strong.

As long as GM can get it's moneypit North American operations in order, GM will recover. I'm not 100% confident they can (they still seem to have a model built on the expectation of losing money and scoring PR points), but sometimes amazing things can happen when a car company is faced with it's demise.

Ford has proven it at least twice, & Chrysler has proven it many times over...and over... again.

Now, it's GM's turn.

That's a good looking car. I would be interested in seeing some interior pics. I sat in the last generation Shelby at NAIAS last year, and I was appalled at the interior. I'm not a dash stroker, but everywhere you looked there was nothing but dull, hard plastic. The door panels in my 93 and 95 FORD Probes were nicer than in this '08 top of the line FORD Mustang, both aesthetically, and in terms of materials and tactile feel. I've never been a fan of the dash design either, but that's just personal preference. I tend to prefer a more surrounding, cockpit type feel.

As far as the exterior is concerned however, I really like what I see from all of the different angles shown in the pics. I like the slightly redesigned front end. Looks more aggressive, I like the newer headlight styling. The wheels look pretty good, as does the side profile. The little bit that I can see from the back looks decent, but there's not much to go on.

Driving back from my Mom's house on Christmas (by Milford Mi), I saw 3 new Mustangs on the express way. Two of them were just a v6, but one has the Mustang stripe on the rocker panel (horse running), and the third was the GT500.

It was all covered in what looked like black and white leopard print. I could see GT500 on the rocker panel.

No pics, as it was midnight, and only had a camera phone.

Pretty cool though...

i owned a 07 GT and my issue was the relationship between the seat/steering wheel/dash. in order to be close enough to the steering wheel (no reach adjustment) my knees made indents into the dash and thats with the seat in the LOWEST position. the GT500 looked like it used the same seats except beefer side bolsters.

Lol, we are the opposite; long arms, short legs - I like a nice reclined position and when I adjust the seat out in my 07 GT I have trouble reaching the pedals comfortably and I'm 6'2"
