Neuter the 5th Gen ?
Quite frankly some of the stuff I'm seeing in PacerX's thread scares me. We are talking about an AFFORDABLE PERFORMANCE car aren't we?
Some examples:
Seats: Yes, the material could be better, but PLEASE ..let's not reduce the lateral support.
Tracking Ruts: That's the price we pay for 275 tires, I don't want my next SS on 245's.
Trunk: Our groceries fit, that's good enough for me.
Snow: I drove mine for 2 winters on steelies with real winter tires. Best overall winter vehicle I've ever driven (and our "other" car has been a succession of 4 x 4 Jimmys and an Envoy since 1986).
In essense to be truly affordable what I'm expecting is a RWD, V8 coupe contented like a Cavalier.

I see what you're saying, and partially agree. But I think that GM can make a Camaro that can achieve the perfect balance of value/performance/comfort. If the 5th gen is to be a world class car, it will have to achieve this balance dead on. GM has the resources to create such a car. Look at the C5, GM was able to improve over the C4 in every area, and keep it at the same price level.
They just have to put the money where it counts and I think they did that with the 4th gen. Some compromises were made but that happens. I think that a lot of the gripes would be solved with a new generation just as they would have if the Camaro were still around. In newer generations, things get better. If there was a 5th gen in 03', there would be better materials used, better fitment and overall quality, engines and transmissions would be improved just like any new model. So when a 5th gen does come out, it will of course have better materials and better quality. There is no way things would just start right up with the same old stuff on the car, so I don't think we will have to worry about a lot of the small stuff.
I just hope they put the money and time into getting the overall performance right.

Like I said in the other thread... I could care less if it even has a cup holder. Nope, don't need to worry about full size adults fitting in the back seat neither.
Just gimme the 6.6 V8, RWD and a six speed and make it scream "C-A-M-A-R-O" and I'll be happy.

If it don't sell, your high performing, low conted, cup holder-less Camaro with cheap looking interior will end up being pretty expensive to produce....then you can spend a bundle to purchase the car that was custom made for you.

Let me simply say this:
The next Mustang will have a high quality interior.
The next Mustang also has been designed with extensive input from it's customer base.
the next Mustang, short of it's live axle will be pretty darn near world class in it's design, content and assembly.
Finally, let me remind you that Mustang already buried the Camaro once, because Camaro was a one trick pony. It had a model that went fast and handled well, but for the most part, the rest of it was unimpressive to people who turned to the current Mustang, let alone what Ford has lined up for the next one!
We don't really need to go into potential ramifications if we go back to the discredited "I don't care about anything else, as long as it's fast" mentality once again, do we?

For all those hoping that the next Camaro is nothing more than a "motor in a box"....all I can say is you guys are gluttons for punishment.
It didn't work last time and it won't next time....unless you guys are willing to "belly up" and buy 3 or 4 thousand each.

I agree with the above two posts. The 5th gen has to scream CAMARO and also retain the sports car feel and yet also pull it off better than it did in the 4th gen. (does that even make sense?? sorry its late)
And to having a fast and attractive (inside and out) top model (whether it be Z/28 or SS) it also needs all other models (base and RS if included) to be attractive and desirable as well. I heard a member of another auto board say "driving a v6 pony car is a sorry experience". GM needs to wipe this attitude clean and Ford seems to be readying the next Stang to do this with its base models' rumored horsepower ive heard thrown around.
