Nesbitt confirms ATS-V.

Tell Fritz:

Will Cadillac’s upcoming small RWD cars have performance characteristics - steering, braking, chassis dynamics - comparable, even surpassing the BMW 3 series. Will there be a V version to compete with the M3? And when can we buy it?

Dear Charles - thanks for your interest in Cadillac. I cannot give you all the details, but the answer to your questions is an enthusiastic yes! Dates are not too distant in the future, but are still not announced.
-Bryan Nesbitt, General Manager, Cadillac

Interesting. This could be good for Caddy if the answer to all the questions truly is yes.

Now that is an interesting answer!

It's the first time I've heard that Alpha will also get a 'performance engine' if Nesbitt's answer of "Yes" was also in response to the 'V' moniker.

I love me an LSX as much as the next person, but the M3 has a pretty neat 4.0L 8300 RPM V8 that is VERY high tech. At some point GM will need something similar to be taken seriously. It would be nice if they took what they learned from the Atlas line and builts straight 6's for cars.

It's good to hear that there is some hope for a Alpha V series.
I'm just curious to what they feel competes with the M3?? And
what engine will not only fit Alpha but fit the bill.

Yes and No.

I doubt M3 owners would buy a GM vehicle if they are after prestige. However, if they are after serious performance, then I cannot see how a 4L V8 will see off a GM smallblock (LSX engines are all of the same external dimensions (i.e. 5.3L == 6.2L), and all are much lighter than an M3 4L V8!).

GM LSX engines are (well IMHO, at least) some of the best powertrains in the world, on any level you care to compare (with the possible exception being NVH).

Well, I'm very interested to see what next year's GT2 Corvette GenV 5.5L racing smallblock is like....

It might also be cool if the ATS-V and 6th gen Z/28 shared some powertrain and chassis development.

For the love of goodness, why? Do you really want to spend several hundred dollars each time you get a check engine light? Or to have an engine with a barrage of failing sensors?

GM squeezes more performance out of "old-tech" than most companies do with "new-tech" and it's simple and reliable.

And GM gets better fuel economy and better reliability.

More moving parts does not equal high tech. I'd call the BMW complicated tech next to an engine like the LS7.

No reviews have complained about the CTS-V's pushrod LSA. ATS shouldn't disappoint either.

the m3 has no tq. tq=fun. A DI VVT LS3 pushrod motor sounds very high tech to me. The cost of producing a dohc 8300 rpm motor is very expensive. The LS-Series is simple, yet very efficient. The cost of a ats-v must be cheaper than the m3.

However, we do not know the details of the upcoming Gen V. All we heard was that a engineer slapped a DI system on the 6.2L caddy engine and produced "well north of 470 hp". I would guess that the Gen V would debut on the C7. I think we are going to see the current Gen IVs recieve DI before the Gen Vs come out.

Nope. DI will wait for the Gen V smallblock. DI requires different heads and intake.
