Need some validation
I was on a Monte Messageboard and someone mentioned that the 06 Monte will be RWD, which I believe to be incorrect since i believe it was confirmed FWD (chi maybe ??). anyways he stated this as well as this
just wondering if this info from GM was valid as he states. thanks
The ZETA platform will do just this. Oshawa's Plant 1 is the home of the Monte Carlo and Impala. Plant 2 is the soon-to-be retired Buick Century and Regal. This summer the changeover to Buicks all-new LaCrosse (Allure in Canada) takes place. Sure the ZETA will be the underpinnings for the next GTO and hopefully the return of the next Camaro but it doesn't start there, it will very likely start here with the Monte Carlo.
Aside from that I was told the information about RWD,V8 and ram air hood was being put together in brochure for the 06 model year. This info coming from right inside GM.

I seem to recall that Guoin stated in a future Camaro thread from not too long ago when we were all discussing the controversy in the naming of the new Zeta based "Chevrolet performance coupe" that the current Monte is basically locked until 08 at which time it may disappear.
Impala and Monte Carlo will be restyled for the 2006 model year (which in modern automotive-speak means it will be out next year in 2005). They will be introduced on the auto show circuit (not necessarily at the Detroit show) next year.
Impala will be essentially a rebodied Grand Prix ("mid-lux" chassis vs. the current "W" chassis), and the Monte will basically be reskinned on the current chassis. Both will have vastly improved interiors and will have a 5.3 in place of the blown 3.8 V6s which are being phased out across the board. The restyled Monte was a question mark initially (a couple years ago), but will be redone and will be around at least 2 years, so that takes us till 2008.
IF the Monte Carlo becomes part of Zeta & RWD, don't expect it before 2009 or 2010. It's the last big FWD coupe GM makes (along with the Sebring & Status, will be the only US made FWD coupe that seats more than 4 people) so GM will be milking the car till it's impractical or till the last "W" or "Mid-Lux" platform line is shut down.
