That is one of the selling features of the system.
The MP3/CD player in our 2007 and 2005 cars still works, MP3's are not obsolete. The great thing about new tech is that everyone wants it, it drives demand for brand new cars. If it didn't change that why would anyone buy anything new. And just because something is old doesn't mean it is obsolete, sure I'd love a USB jack but my MP3's still play just fine off a CD-R. Engine still turns over every morning without direct injection of VVT, and the car still moves with only a 5 speed transmission.
