My Idea For a G6 GXP That Would Sell
My Idea For a G6 GXP That Would Sell
I could have just posted this in Charlie's thread, but I'm far to pompous, and like to have my own thread.
Here's a G6 GXP that people would buy and the mags would love:
Engine - 3.6L@300 hp; 2.8L turbo; 3.9@300 hp - Take your pick - they're all being used in Epsilons. 3.6L is best, but 3.9L will work - so long as it has POWER. This thing needs to be faster than the SE-R, no excuses. We've had nothing but excuses for the last 10 years.
Suspension - No, hydrualic steering isn't really a suspension mod. Neither is "sport tuning." Higher compression springs, bilstein shocks, thicker sways, bigger rotors and calipers. Why can the GP have all this while the higher volume G6 can't? Are the Epsilons compatible enough so that Pontiac could pick off some handling goodies from the 9-3's parts bin?
Tranny- Six speed, 5 or six speed auto. Again, doesn't Saab get a 5-speed auto from outside. This might be pricey. So lets hope the GM 6-speeds get here quick.
Interior - Who cares. I'm serious. Has anyone noticed that Nissan's interiors suck? How about Dodge? People will understand. If the car's engaging, there will be a market of people who won't care. And the nice thing about having a million brands is that Pontiac can let the showroom 10 feet away worry about courting people who's first priority is a nice interior. The Aura will have that. Make this car edgier and faster, but cheaper inside.

I'd say no frills inside, but lets not go cheap, interiors are a HUGE selling point...

If they swapped out that radio for the new one that is in the Solstice and changed the climate control ***** too that would make a huge difference on how modern the interior look. The current radio is very 90's

^ Agreed, one of my friends just purchased a G6 because he liked the interior compared to the mazda6's. Keep nice interiors.
To me it would be cool if it had a supercharger or turbo as oposed to any other regular run of the mill 280hp engine.
If its forced induction, then at least you know you have a big TQ advantage and extra "tunability" hehe.
However, the more power, the more torque management I suppose.
Damn FWD!

Sorry, I wasn't being clear enough. I'm not saying that GM should cheapen the current G6 interior in any way shape or form. I was saying that if they do a performance model, they don't need to make the interior any better than it already is. It's not the best in class, but it's competitive. If on top of that the performance is best in class, the current G6 interior would not cost any GXP sales.
