Should Pontiac build the G6 GXP?
Re: Should Pontiac build the G6 GXP?
Yeah, I will say if they built it just like the concept I would have no particular problem with it. Seems like most people are gonna want the grill changed though, although I don't have any problem with it as it is.
If there is one thing I definetly want to see make it to production, it is functional hood scoops. I was annoyed to no end about how the GTOs hood scoops were non-functional, regardless of how effective "ram-air" truly is.

How much would it cost? I'm guessing $28,000? If so, no. It honestly looks like something that would appeal to a younger crowd who wont be able to afford it.
Like I said before it looks like a poor man's G35 with tacked on hood scoops.

I don't get why the GXP sedan they showed a year ago was nicer. That had tasteful body effects, and the sweet 3.6L. That's an Altima competitor.
This, the way it is now is a last place finish in a Car and Driver comparo.
Thought GM was going for home runs. This seems more like maybe bloop single to me. Not good enough.

I too would have appreciated a more serious effort.
There are some things I like though. I like the 19" wheels. The 240 hp version of the 3.9 is a pretty decent unit. Maybe not necessarily first rate, but much better than what I was expecting. 30 more horses can only make it even better. And I'm into the whole Pontiac/Ram Air thing.....as long as those twin nostrils actually ram some air.
And there are some things that I don't like....
I simply cannot take the spoiler and body kit. Those things will turn off a prospective buyer like me, they are essentially deal killers (admittedly, maybe I'm not the target anyway.). And the only thing Pontiac is bragging about regarding the suspension is, that it's .25mm lower. That's a nice start, but I'd prefer a GP GXP level of chassis tuning.

Personally I think it's time for Pontiac to redo it's entire lineup. Every car looks the same from the G6 to the GTO. Nothing stands out anymore, The Solstice notwithstanding. I Also believe it's time for Pontiac to rethink the twin port grill. Pontiac needs a total makeover much like Cadillac got.
As a Pontiac fan I'm dissapointed in their entire lineup. I think Pontiacs "glory days" are over.

Change the grill to normal sized and tone down the spoiler (or make a delete option) Other than that I like the 19"s and everything else.
I like the engine, but I'm not sure it is the right choice. It has the power, but I'd kind of like to see that 260HP Turbo 2.0L in there, or maybe a lower compression DI DOHC 3.6L (LS4 is the real motor I'd want
)
The updated 3.9L should replace the current 3.9L in the GTP

Its funny you said the grille looks like a vampire bat. I thought the exact same thing when I looked at the car for the first time last night.
Re: Should Pontiac build the G6 GXP?
I like the concept of the spoiler as it looks similar to the T/A's as it should but a little over done. Proportion it better to the body and leave the spoiler. The fenders could stand to have more flare. Brakes and suspension need to be more "GXP", like the Prix as that car is a REAL GXP and the definition of what the moniker should stand for. Same for the upcoming Solstice variant. Making the grill cartoonish, adding wheels, hood, spoiler and 30 hp doesnt make a GXP after what was done with GP, Solstice and to a lesser extent Boneville. GM may as well call it an SS if thats all G6 gets. GXP would be a mislabel. It must be built but do more and do it right.
