My concept engine for a future Camaro

Maybe this could be an engine in a limited production 5th Gen.

Gen IV V8
4.8L
7200 RPM Redline
10.5:1 compression
3 valves per cyl.
375HP

A high reving V8 would ad some more fun to an already exciting V8 line up.

OK....but a 6.0 would cost the same, produce 100 more hp, way more torque and at a much lower RPM, and be under substantially less stress .

Unless it would also be used in a differerent car, it would likely end up being a Camaro version of the ZR-1 Corvette. More expensive than it's traditional buyer would be willing to pay.

A higher redline is nice, but I really perfer the low-end grunt of a torquemonster.

If they can roll the two together, that is cool, but there's nothing liek brutal torque-fest launches!

I don't think it would be as bad as the ZR1, more like Z06. All it would be is basiclly a 4.8L with LS7 heads and cam. I'm not sure what the cost of certifying a new engine combo like that are, unfortunatly that alone would probably be enough make this never happen.

Doing something like this would be a lot cheaper/easier than making a new displacement like some have said. THis would also be a lot closer to the 302 Camaro that many people wanted.

I just don't see the reason for it. I'd rather have a cheaper, simpler, more powerful, more torquey, 6.0L, 2v, LS2.

BTW...who's asking for a 302 Camaro?

I'd also take the LS2 in my 5th Gen. Some people where saying before how they would like to see a Z28 that was a 302 or 305 like how it was back in 1969 due to one of the racing curcuits.

A high rev lower displacement V8 Camaro could be a cool niche, maybe something to do for 1 or 2 years as a special edition model.

Unless there does exist a current or new racing series that mandates a lower displacement engine, that the next gen Camaro would be competative in, I rather see the money go elsewhere, especially since larger displacements is most likely cheaper and easier, and probably would weigh in close the same.

I really hope the next next gen Camaro gets a succesful factory backed team in a roadrace series, preferably with high visibility.. That would help seperate it out (at least in the US) from all the other high hp cars out there.

Gone are the days where it makes THAT much of a difference. The LS1s are great torque producers, and with a slightly better set of heads, they are hard to beat for the money. New age GM V8 engines not only have great torque, but also spin GREAT. I think a slighly lighter engine based off the LS1 platform would be a logical step in the right direction.
