Re: Mustangs with Police/Persuit Packages again?

We have Tahoes and Durangos here for both local police, EMT's, and State Troopers. They are extremely advantageous.

They are NOT persuit vehicles. If a persuit ever takes place in ANY patrol vehicle, they call backup. The SUV's are told not to persue (atleast the Troopers in NY).

The huge advantage is the ground clearance. It isnt necessary often, but it has advantages. Dont forget State Troopers have a pretty decent domain to cover, and so do normal Police. A standard patrol car cant make it through 6" of mud, cant do some random duty work, and also cant pull police boats.

Cops certainly arent stupid. Nobody in their right mind would take a tahoe above 100mph. If you do, you shouldnt be on the roads.

But the overall moral of the story is simple. It's like a Condem. Better to have it and not need it, then need it and not have it. When seconds count you'd best be prepared.

And some states require patrol cars to be clearly marked and such, though those laws are slowly fading away. I think this one is NOT fair because of the stripes and windows, and you can bet there will be entrapment issues.

On the same note, the City of Troy police department did a nice drug bust in 2002. They got a 2001 Z06 (in black with magnesium wheels) and nothing was stock. They had to do some work to get it road legal, but they took that thing and made it the D.A.R.E car. How cool, and yet un-cool, is that?

Kids, pay attention to me cause I have a sweet car. Dont do drugs. Who payed for this car? A dealer. How'd he get it? Drugs.

I want to see an Aveo with a light bar!

I dont think it would be entrapment if they revved back. They are not forcing you to race them. If you take off like a bat over hell and get pulled thats your fault.

To me, its the same thing as an undercover cop offering to buy drugs.

If I were to get busted racing a car like that, I deserve everything I get. I have no problems with that. My point was that there are people on the roads who don't have sense enought to look at who is driving before they decide to slam down the hammer. This car BEGS those people to do just that! Black racing stripes over the hood?!?! Rims? Tinted windows?

I hate to admit it, but I would have sailed right onto that thing in my younger days.
I guess aging DOES have it's advantages... nowadays I'd rather wave or give a thumbs-up to a fellow ponycar driver as we pass (Camaro, Firebird, Mustang) and bust a bag of rice instead. Nice short-lived little pull-away jaunts - nothing radical or extreme, just enough to make the point then back off. I admit that I DO feed my horse a steady diet of rice - especially if the rice begs me to eat it.

Now if the Highway Patrol starts using Civics and/or Lancers with 3-foot-tall wings on the back for patrol units - I'm DEAD MEAT!

I agree with you but it has been argued at least once in court and said to be entrapment, so most departments don't let you do it.
