Mustang sketch in Motor Trend

The latest drawing of the new Mustang is in Motor Trend. I don't know how accurate it is, but apparently all the major magazine publishers know what it looks like.

Normally, I don't give M/T the time of day as far as future concepts, but this looks close to what the buzz has been at BON, and the Mustang sites. Figured I's share it here.

pics? post em. Is it along that retro theme we've been seeing lately? That looked nice and agressive. Modern look with a bit of old school.

No, that's not the one. Sorry I don't have a scanner. I got my magazine in the mail today. When I looked at the pic, I thought the front end looked a lot like one of the old 60's models, and in the article it says that the styling of the front end has the nose of the 69-70, with the grill of the 67-68.
The back end does not look too good in my opinion.

Thumbs down

Egads what a bummer! I liked the last one I saw a lot better... the blue fastback with rectangular headlights and a shape closely resembling the 1968 fastback. This one is TOO retro, and too much of a blatant copy of the 1965. WAY too close a copy... almost looks like a 1965 which someone spiffed up with spare fiberglass panels! Yukkkkkkk

Pls Ford - if you decide to make the next Mustang retro, make it more like the '67-'70 cars.

That is one rediculously retro-looking vehicle. I would hope the Ford designers would have a little more imagination than that....

I'm no Ford fan, but really, that's one ugly looking 'Stang.

When are the people penning new car shapes going to get off this stupid retro kick and start trying showing us some new, cool things? Sheez ...

Less is more. Pontaic G8 concept speaks volumes ...

I've put my finger on it... It's like a Mustang II from the 1970's! That horrible, dark period in muscle car history

I'd need to see more before drawing conclusions, but upon initial impressions I liked the looks of the blue retro-inspired sketch that was floating around months back. Either way, I'm sure a retro, classic-shaped Mustang will get lots of press and have strong sales (at least initially), and Ford knows it. They can continue with the special editions once the novelty wears off. It'll be interesting to see what they do with the interior on such a car.

Now, 2008 or so when the Camaro comes back we'll see how GM reacts. If this is a hit, I'm sure a retro Camaro will seem awfully tempting to produce. Maybe we'll get a hint at the next NAIAS. Retro Camaro and Bel Air in same lineup? If nothing else, I'd like to see GM copy Ford in producing special models every couple years or so. I think that can really pump life into a car, and I'm sure there are lots of possibilities for the Camaro/Firebird.

I like the fact that the drawing has two sets of foglights!!! HAHAHAH!!!! Either that or it has the high beams in the grille, wich would suprise me because of the "beancounters" would allow something like that.

Just think, in 10-15 years, we will have fox-body look-alikes.

Exactly.

Again... my motto:

"Just say no to retro!"
