Never thought I'd see the day a Mustang >GT< would be duking it out with a M3 with its head held high .

There cars are so different though. If you're one of those people who overly obsess about numbers, then I suppose you just creamed all over your keyboard. But the new M3 is an absolute dream to drive, not to mention the HUGE different in the interior.

No doubt that the new Stang is putting up impressive numbers in both the V6 and GT versions, but it's a completely different animal than the M. If you've driven the newest version of the M3 you know what I'm talking about. It's leaps and bounds better than the last M3 that would rattle your teeth loose.

It is sport luxury vs sport muscle. You just pick your flavor.

I would hope the M3 drove better and had a huge difference in interior. You can almost buy 2 of those GTs for 1 M3.

Oh dear. The article just sprouts numbers. No head to head comparison.

I'd take the GT if it were my money.

But numbers definitely don't tell the whole story.

An M3 can make an amateur look like a pro. It takes a pro to look like a pro in the Mustang... or at least that's my opinion of the last one I drive in (2008).

I think the M3's interior is cool but I don't think the interior is of particularly better quality than the GT. The 2011 GT has a pretty nice interior and I think the M3's interior lacks a bit for its class. I'm saying this from my perspective of having leased a 07 335i.

I think I'd also prefer the Mustang's torque curve. The M3 takes a little more winding up than I'd care for.

A 2008 Mustang GT has almost nothing in common with the 2011 in the performance department.

Although I have no doubt in my mind the M3 would probably be easier to track for an amateur.

Me too.

With that said, until I drive a car which makes me feel otherwise, the M3 is in class of it's own.

Same chassis, similar suspension, right? I figure they'd handle pretty similarly.

Same chassis , but Mustangs suspension has gone to finishing school since 2008 . A 2011 may seem like a different car entirely to you compared to the 2008 .

I would say the aftermarket performance parts for the Mustang alone would put it in the lead. I'm sure there might be some parts and tuners for the BMW but I'd hate to pay that german performance parts tax! Also the Mustang gets about 4-5 mpg more than the BMW with a bigger motor( I'm pretty sure the BMW gets hit by the gas guzzler tax). I've already read about the superchargers they are testing for the new 5.0, gonna get nasty for the competition once the aftermarket gets built up on this 5.0. But oh the BMW is more refined, yeah it should be for almost double the money.

I'd have agree with Sax, there should be a big difference in the GT, think GT500 less 300 pounds on the nose.

the 05-09 non-track pack cars utilized A/S tires with a suspension tuned for folks who have hemroid problems so bad riding in a Lincoln Town car is a serious posterior health issue. Well maybe not that bad but they really had a soft ride with poor high speed control on anything but a smooth road.

Conspiracy theorist might attribute that to Ford making sure the 07-09 GT500s handled better, but who knows?

And yes, the same year GT500 does outhandle the standard GT Mustang. it just takes some getting used to with the big lump up front.

Can't say about the Bullitt though????
