The snarkey remarks, the pot shots and the bickering in general is becoming an embarassment to this site.

I think I know just about everyone involved in that, and I am somewhat surprised because it all seems to be very out of character.

The 5th gen forum is one forum on this site with very little problems. It is rare that threads have to get locked or deleted. It has been mentioned that the 5th gen section is where the mature folks go to make healty debates and constructive thought. It is for talking about the great things that may or may not happen. It is not for proving how much you know, or how right you are.

So enough of my sermon. How about we leave our attitudes and ignorance at the door? The last thing I want to do is step in on something in this forum and be the bad guy, especially to my friends here.

Ford biased?!?

I have a brand new Z71 Suburban sitting in my garage and a [legendary] Regal Limited Turbo-T that shares street and track duty with my Mustang. My daily beater is a '99 Taurus SE (DOHC-24valve). The bozos can save the "Ford boys" and "terrorist" comments.
When I see a prognostication made by some of the insiders come to pass, then I'll put stock into their future predictions.

That's very funny and a little bit sad at the same time.

I think we just let our passion for our cars get the best of us. I know everyone involved, and no one has anything but the best of intentions.

Like I mentioned in an e-mail recently about the situation (edited to fit this post)...

I'll bet you (we) can share a great deal of knowledge with each other from here on out. (Some of us) have the inside track, no doubt. I would like to see (us) working with each other and not against. Easier said than done? Maybe. Just a hopeful thought as (many in this forum) are well respected and highly valuable to any automotive community.
Now that we "got it all out" I think we'll all play a bit nicer in the future.

With the way things go in the industry things can indeed change at a moment's notice. I have a feeling that we'll all be right on some things and way off on others. I do know there are some great things happening all around, and how they materialize has yet to be played out. Regardles, let's make sure that whatever does happen can be celebrated by all.

I'll cover the short list:

1) A +400hp Corvette.

2) A +500hp Corvette.

3) A +625hp Ultra-Corvette with the backing of the highest levels of management in the corporation.

"There will be versions of the Corvette that I can comfortably say will suck the doors off both of those cars..."

- Bob Lutz referring to the Ford GT and the Dodge Viper

4) A GTO that will progressively increase in power.

5) A follow-on GTO chassis packing a variant of the #1 and #2 motors.

6) A CTSv packing the same motor selection as #5.

7) A V12 motor for Cadillac... with good chances of ending up in the STSv, the Escalade and the XLRv.

8) Solstice, Bengal, and whatever they decide to call the Saturn variant.

9) The Holdens.

10) A financially healthy company that has managed to eliminate the largest pension plan on the planet as a liability.

11) A new, dedicated facility devoted to turning out stunningly powerful engines for the rarer and more exclusive vehicles listed above.

And finally...

12) The return of a certain, rather well-known 2+2 performance car... designed to handle levels of power that will truly shock folks, and will have one performance feature in particular no one at Ford ever thought of for their competing car.

Against this onslaught, Ford is providing a rather porky (if early reports are correct) Mustang, a high performance truck (don't get me started...), and an over-priced pseudo-exotic that will find it's true competition is a car costing half as much.

***This is just the stuff we KNOW is coming. Whatever the evil minds at GM have cooking in the shadows has hints of being even more amazing.... such as 750hp twin-turbocharged V-12's... supercharged Gen-IV variants in the trucks... etc...***

Oh boy, Ford might as well pack it in and go home. Except, they have plenty to match up against the LIST right now.

Let's go

1) Cobra will handle it, just like today.

2) Lightly modded Cobra will handle it, just like today. Still a good buy though.

3) Ford GT or a $60K Mustang really who cares?

4) '05 Mustang GT will equal it(GTO is averaging 13.8@103 in the rags), any special edition stang will beat it. Still a great car.

5) Cobra will handle it.

6) Jaguar S-type R. Been there done that. Welcome to the the Big Leagues, boys.

7) Jaguar XJR or the new V12 XJS oughtta be more than enough. XKR easily handles the Caddy vert. SC Navigator will handle a V12 slade.

8) About as interesting as Volvo.

9) The Tickfords.

10) Rah Rah GM GM he's our man, if he can't do it no one can!!

11) See above

12) Spec- U - Lation. Why not go buy a Cobra in 2005 and save yourself a long wait?

13) Ford Lightning. Didn't see your number 13 in the list, so I added it for you.

Guess Ford doesn't need to quake in its boots after all.

As for AFFORDABLE performance, GM has left you fellas out to dry.

Other than the Stang, where is Ford's affordable performance cars? Sorry, but the next Cobra and current GT will hardly qualify as affordable. Let this thread rest.

Bob has just been in a ton of magazines since 1988 and was one of the founders of the 5.0 movement. Last time I saw Bob in a magazine was earlier this year. The man is a relative drag racing expert and has been recognized as such by multiple sources in print. Bob is very down to earth except when people act disrespectful to him. I suggest you check out some of his posts on the Corral where he is a moderator. Bob's father also passed away this past week, so in light of this I have been surprised with his restraint toward you. I respect him for being that way.
Now, that's a bummer. My condolences. Kinda puts all the rest of this in perspective.

Thumbs up

Forgotten in all this Ford - GM comparison is the performance revival under way at DCX. They've got some hot stuff here and on the way too, like the new Hemi and the SRT4's little dynamo. and the big honker Viper V10 is now available in the SRT10 and is 'kind of' affordable too. I'm continually amazed nowadays by the new golden age of performance cars we now live in! It basically guarantees a glowing future for the Woodward Dream Cruise! (That's kind of a Detroiter's joke, sorry)
