More People Should Buy SSR's
Why is this not selling well? It has 400 HP, throaty sound, more get-up than the Jefferson's, and an interior with virtually NO PLASTIC. I had the pleasure of test driving this after the Corvette (C6), and I really liked it. It is a convertible-like truck-car-thing-a-ma-jig that converts into a hard top, for those of you who don't know. And no I don't mean convertible top, it actually is metal.
I think that test drives like the one I went to should boost sales. What is everyone's opinion of it?

Re: More People Should Buy SSR's
over priced, roof is gimicky, pitiful cargo room in the "bed", bloated, heavy, soft suspension...
I also have driven one.. an LS2 with an M6.. one huge thing i noticed was how heavy it felt around the corners.. handling was nowhere near my camaro's..

I do think it'd be awesome if there was a lower priced non-convertible version of it available. That folding top has got to add several hundred pounds way up high in the chassis.

and i think it's funny, Chevy's web site lists SSR under both the Car and Truck sections..
if you want a high performance truck.. go with the Lightning or Ram SRT-10...
Re: More People Should Buy SSR's
I love the car... just a few flaws with it IMO...
1. Price
2. Fixed roof will lower cost, GM.
3. GM should have merged the HHR and SSR and arrived at a kick-***, practical vehicle.
Still love the SSR!!!

Re: More People Should Buy SSR's
I like it, but I agree with the price comments. It comes too close to the Vette in price. I've still only seen about 3 in my lifetime actually on the road. Compare that with the 3-4 I've seen just sitting on the lots.
Re: More People Should Buy SSR's
Why?
SSR = overpriced, heavy, poor carrying / towing capacity for such a heavy vehicle and styling is jellybean bland.
I'm not in the market for anything that's as heavy and slow as an SSR, but I can tell you now that I'd rather pick up a nice tough looking Black Trailblazer SS or Silverado SS or whatever is the fastest hot truck GM has to offer; better looking while getting more utility at the same time (sorry I'm not big into trucks so not sure if I got the names right).

Styling is bland...?? Dude, the ssr stands out like a flying saucer on the road. Small bed is beside the point, its just a toy to drive on sunny days. I bought one last year and really enjoyed it, I drove it for a year then traded it to a guy for a 67 Camaro convertible. I'd say the high price keeps them from selling well.
Re: More People Should Buy SSR's
Everytime I see an SSR I am intrigued. I don't necesarily like it or hate it.
However, if I was going to buy something with a bed I would choose the Lightning. In the end there is so much potential for straightline performance, and that's about all I would be concerned with in a performance truck.

Re: More People Should Buy SSR's
It's a good looking car, but that's about it. When I drove one, it felt more like a parade float than a sports car.
For the same money, a Corvette is a hell of a lot more car.

.A sunny day toy to me, is a real car that can accelarate, brake and corner as only a car can, not some porky retro truck wannabe.
Re: More People Should Buy SSR's
SSR is too expensive. If they made a $32,000 hard top version and lowered the price of the vert to $37,000 they would sell more.
It also need more utility since it is a truck, the bed is too Lincoln Blackwood like. It sould also tow more, TrailBlazer SS can still tow 6,000lbs+
Your Camaro isn't a GMT-360 pickup truck.
How does the SSR compare to the Lightning in handling?

Re: More People Should Buy SSR's
I think the SSR is very cool. But I think it's far too expensive and looks dorky with the top down.
And if you drive a 6 speed, make sure the parking brake handle is all the way down.

Re: More People Should Buy SSR's
I love the SSR but the price is WAY to high. I wanted one instead of my Camaro but in 02 they still had no info on when it would be available or the price. I looked at trading my Camaro for a year end close out 04 SSR last year. I test drove the SSR and loved it but the Fiancee talked me out of spending more money to get the SSR. Even with closeout pricing out the door it was still going to be about $34K. IF someone is going to spend the money for an SSR they can get a Vette for a few bucks more and have a real sports car with heratige. Maybe eventually I'll pick up an SSR for a summer driver but only if I find a good deal on one.
