You know, in the picture with the old car and the new one, they seem to have a pretty similar profile except that the 05's hood doesn't dip as much as the old car. The 05' seems to have a look of more "mass" than the old one even with disregaurding the camo. I still say the new car will be a few hundred pounds more than the current model.

It's stubbier, taller, and has a higher cowl.

How much is it supposed to weigh?

Also, do us LS1 guys have anything to worry about from the stock 05' GTs?

Don't know if LS1 guys need to worry.....but I certainly wouldn't be caught napping at a stop light.

Put it this way, the stock '05 Mustang GT targeted the LS1 F-bodies in performance.

Question

Scott brought up an interesting point at our BG breakfast meeting....how many of these will sell in Europe due to the higher speeds on the Autobahn?

The front of these have to be horrible in the wind tunnel.

I thought the Mach 1s were targeting us? So far the popular opinion seems to be 275 rwhp for the GTs. 30 or so shy of an LS1.

However, if it weighs less.....

That's the current Mach1....not the future one. I'd guess that the '05 GT will have performance very comparable to the '03-'04 Mach1.

That's right. The new 3V 4.6 puts out around 300 at the crank equal to the current 4V 4.6 in the current Mach1, which runs low 13's at 106-108 stock.

The new 3V head is more compact than the old 2V and flows close to the Mach1 4V head. Amazing.

So there's your '05 base Stang GT.

Starting at $24K and change.

Since when does 300 crank hp run with an LS1?

From what uncammoed shots I have seen the production coupes have a more rounded leading edge and nose than the concepts.

Yeah, I heard 275 rwhp from several sources for the GT. LS1s are over 300 rwhp. I don't understand what they are talking about.

300 crank GT < 325-350ish crank LS1.

It sounds to me like the new GTs will be LT1 speed.

Wow, thats a nice Mach1...maybe if I have the $$ I will trade in my v6 for that... I like the interior...it kinda looks retro!...if i bought that car I would get it in electric blue with black stripes!

The average Mach1 rated at 300hp is actually dynoing 275 at the wheels. That's about 325 real crank. So Ford definitely underrated the Mach1.

The average mph is about 2 less than LS1 which translates to about 20-25 hp difference.

So the current "officially rated 300hp" Mach1 is explainable running low 13s @ 106.

I guess the question is will the 300hp 3V in the '05 be underrated or will it be really 300 meaning it should dyno around 255 at the wheels and run significantly slower than an LS1.

But... word is LS1 performance is the target for the GT and coupled with the reports of test mules dynoing 275 at the wheels suggests that the '05 GT will run about where the current Mach1 is.
