Also maintaining the correct coolant at the correct level.
With a little more attention to cooling and lubrication, they'll last as long as any other motors.
Isn't the turbos on those 1.4s suppose to have some kind of water cooler or something?

Most turbo cars, WRX and Evos are the only ones I've heard, do come with timers from the factory and don't turn the motor off instantly. Especially after some quick bursts. I think some the bigger pickup diesels do the same thing.

Someone's being optimistic! 3400lbs with 140 ft-lbs of torque... Let's hope it beats SmartCar.

To be perfectly honest my 1986 Cutlass at 3500 lbs and 140 hp kept up with traffic fine. Daily transportation doesn't need to be blisteringly quick.

I know wrx's don't have turbo timers, I can't think of any turbo'd cars that come stock with one...

My 1990 Corsica did just fine with its 95HP 4cyl and 3 speed automatic. I'd be happy with a daily driver that matched that Corsica's performance.

The Dodge Caliber SRT4 has an electric water pump for the turbo that can circulate coolant around the bearing cartridge after engine shutdown.

I used to pop the hood and let my turbo cars idle for a minute or two before I shut them down.
And, yeah, a lot of turbo cars have coolant circulated through them, an oil lubing them, circulating both would be ideal, but since most water pumps are manual, circulating oil by a scavenging pump would be cheap and simple.
PS: My sister's '91 Eagle Talon Tsi AWD turbo(mouth full) blew a "coolant" seal in the turbo, and I had to replace it.
I was glad it wasn't the head gasket, it fogged up 3 lanes of traffic!
