More C6 info
And its only the Convertible that will be hurt by the extra weight from the power top...The convertible guys aren't going to care about the extra 100 lbs, their driving a convertible 'Vette! They're doing a very good thing here, this could actually sell a lot more 'Vettes than they would have otherwise...

While I don't necessarily disagree with you, I got the impression from Dave Hill a while back that weight cutting was one of the primary goals on C6; Styling, function, and everything else be damned.

If the C6 'vert weighs significantly less than a C5 'vert, then thats all that really matters.
Does anyone know what the C6 models will weigh? (coupe, 'vert, Z06)

will they use forced induction to make the 600HP, or up the displacement?

Wasn't there talk a while back about an 8000 rpm redline somewhere, and this thread about titanium connecting rods.
Also reference this thread. A lot of things confirmed here.

Now the current Z06 weighs in at 3115. So an extra 120 lb's off would be like getting free hp!

I heard from a now-reliable source (he first told me the C6 would be 400hp with a C6 Z06 in at 500hp) said the goal of the Corvette team was to get the C6 Z06 to a sub 3000lb curb weight. And to get the car 50/50 f-r weight that with 500hp it would be almost unbeatable.

I don't know what their sources are but I suspect they're credible.

Yeah, it's funny how things turn around. I spent the 80's reading how "portly" and "overweight" the Corvette was (as told by the eurotrash-wannabes in the magazines at the time.)
Now that the XLR is the lightest car in its class and the Corvette the lightest car in its class, I guess one of the few things they have left to bash is the interior. If they upgrade that, what's next . . . the color of the engine?
Go GM!

the new porsche carrera GT is sitting around 3000 lbs and has about 605 hp (v10) and the ford GT in the same range and the enzo is at about 660hp and 3000 lbs. just throw this into the mix. this is just gonna be the year america makes a statement in the supercar market
Couple of thoughts:
-I'm glad they ditched the pop ups. They are useless, additional weight and are completely unnecessary with modern aero headlamps. Plus, they are so "80's."
-Three engines rules, but I find myself wondering why certain sources from GM keep saying that an F-body which would sell in excess of 100,000 units a year could only justify two...
-Smaller and lighter is great. The current corvette was a little on the large side. Hopefully, GM will keep this in mind in their other new performance cars [cough] camaro [/cough].
-The additional 50HP will more than negate the extra weight of a power top.
-I wish they took the look a little farther forward.
-I need a better job.
