And its only the Convertible that will be hurt by the extra weight from the power top...The convertible guys aren't going to care about the extra 100 lbs, their driving a convertible 'Vette! They're doing a very good thing here, this could actually sell a lot more 'Vettes than they would have otherwise...

All C6 Vette models will benefit from the weight cutting measures (fixed headlamps, frame etc.). Only the convertable will have the slight penalty due to the power top. Sounds like a very resonable compromise to me. I'm sure most 'vert buyers would agree. If they were so hung up on weight, theyd buy a coup or ZO6, not a 'vert.

If the C6 'vert weighs significantly less than a C5 'vert, then thats all that really matters.

Does anyone know what the C6 models will weigh? (coupe, 'vert, Z06)

Wow, that sounds good to me! I may have to start saving for a used one in a few years, but I love my car, too. The power top sounds cool, but I've always like the C5's manual top pretty good also.

I think it would be sweet if they could do it N.A.
Wasn't there talk a while back about an 8000 rpm redline somewhere, and this thread about titanium connecting rods.

Also reference this thread. A lot of things confirmed here.

I heard from a now-reliable source (he first told me the C6 would be 400hp with a C6 Z06 in at 500hp) said the goal of the Corvette team was to get the C6 Z06 to a sub 3000lb curb weight. And to get the car 50/50 f-r weight that with 500hp it would be almost unbeatable.

Now the current Z06 weighs in at 3115. So an extra 120 lb's off would be like getting free hp!

My sources tell me that 3,000 lbs is the target for Z06. They may fall short of that however...and come in at around 3100.

well even at 3100 odd lbs the current Z06 is about the lightest
2 seater (V6-V8) out there. Lighter then Porsche, Ferrari, Viper ect.

Yeah, it's funny how things turn around. I spent the 80's reading how "portly" and "overweight" the Corvette was (as told by the eurotrash-wannabes in the magazines at the time.)

Now that the XLR is the lightest car in its class and the Corvette the lightest car in its class, I guess one of the few things they have left to bash is the interior. If they upgrade that, what's next . . . the color of the engine?

Go GM!

Thumbs up

Couple of thoughts:

-I'm glad they ditched the pop ups. They are useless, additional weight and are completely unnecessary with modern aero headlamps. Plus, they are so "80's."

-Three engines rules, but I find myself wondering why certain sources from GM keep saying that an F-body which would sell in excess of 100,000 units a year could only justify two...

-Smaller and lighter is great. The current corvette was a little on the large side. Hopefully, GM will keep this in mind in their other new performance cars [cough] camaro [/cough].

-The additional 50HP will more than negate the extra weight of a power top.

-I wish they took the look a little farther forward.

-I need a better job.
