Kinda makes you think what might the C7 will be like down the road. I mean how can they out do this? Th C6 is going to be the most badass sports car to ever hit the street.

they can make it lighter and more powerful still. then again, they might make it more expensive too. :/

So the C6 ditches pop-up headlights in the never-ending quest to "reduce unnecessary complexity and weight" and adds a much heavier power top motor to the package? Hmmmm....

Hey, that's a great point.

While I don't totally disagree with the addition of a power top, it sure does take away from the removal of pop-up's weight arguement...

Gimme back my hidden headlamps!!!

Dave Hill must have felt there was enough owner demand for a powertop and enough willing to compromise on the headlamps (which are more of a styling feature than the power top is a comfort/driver satisfaction feature). As other have pointed out, the convertible is the only to take on the weight penalty. Maybe they'll toss in some carbon fiber parts to make up for it!

I think we have to understand when it coms the the C6 that it shared the cost and development time with the XLR too. That being said this Vette should get the benefit of the XLR's already useable retracting hard top. Meaning the money was already spent in the power top department and because of it the C6 will be a better car. While it won't be the same style it will probably use some brackets or motor placement. The C5 was not intended for that but the C6/XLR were.

And I beleive many C5 owners would've taken a power top if it was available. Sure many purists say the Vette doesnt need it but the Vette has evolved to a car that you can live with every day. It has a useable trunk, power top, HUD, ABS, traction control, Stability control, magna-ride shocks, good gas miledge with tried and true performance. Today you can have your cake and eat it too!

As long as the power top is optional, who cares? I don't want it, but I can see a lot of other people wanting it. It might be a very complex system, since it'll have to raise and lower the tonneau as well as move the top.

Actually, the way they have the C5 top counterbalanced and spring-loaded it really doesn't need a power top. My 100lb wife can put it up with one hand. After using the C5 top for a while, the Prowler top feels broken.

Obviously, i don't think we'll be seeing 100+hp gains like we're currently seeing now. It's gotta level or slow down somewhere down the line. Classic example: From 60's 427ci 425hp big block vettes to 17-280hp hp smog era heavy weight c3's. Regulations change. We can't predict the future, but things will definitly slow down. Still, a 700hp c7 Zl1 would still be a welcomelol.

What is the base C6 supposed to come in at weight wise? It will be awesome if the base C6 rivals C5 Z06 performance, it's certainly got the power...

It is supposed to be faster than the ZO6. Awhile ago, someone reported that the C6 beat the current ZO6 around a track by a good margin.

I have read several people supposedly "in the know" say that C6 will weigh in at 29xx lbs... don't know if I buy that or not....
