More 6.1 HEMI news.
Found this post by someone who claims to be a DCX suspension engineer.
"First lets get the facts straight.
1. The first car that will be available/engineered with the new 6.1 hemi IS the 300C LX which is named the "SRT-8".
2. From there the dodge magnum will be integrated into the system but it will be all wheel drive capability and will just have the call sighn "MAGNUM"
3. Then after all the bugs have been spotted the last car to get the 6.1 hemi will be the charger.
4. The under wraps HP of the SRT-8 is around 454. not 440.
5. It gets 10 miles to the gallon so save your quarters.
6. It has enlarged Brembo big brake rotors and four piston calipers.
7. The suspension pieces ( springs, shocks, knuckles, swaybars) have all been redesighned. In my opinion it still handles like a pig!
8. It is not a blown 5.7, it is a true 6.1, out of the car you can see the difference.
9. New michilin Y rated tires will be on the car and will be dropped 0.5"
10. IT IS NOT A MANUAL!
11. It will have new seat upgrades that which are comparable to the viper but not as sporty or small.
12. It will also have an enlarged exhaust system. I think I saw the numbers on the drawing to be close to if not 3.0" in diameter.
i could go on and on, If you guys have any questions give me a shout.

ahahahah 10MPG... is that with, or without MDS!
Y rated tires? why not Z's? 454hp, and Im thinking Z's. Especialy on a "performance" car.
No manual? WTF?
So... question. How long will it take till Dodge takes The Viper's V10, and designes a Hemi model?
Time will tell.

600HP.
Thats interesting, is the not manual only for the 300C? There was a person that said they are a insider and said that the Charger will have a manual, I beleive it was over on moparts.com. He and another that supposily works at a supplier said that the trans tunnel is larger then what the Magnum and 300C tunnels are right now.
Also, when is the next auto show? I don't know what to think about all these rumors. I keep hearing conflicting reports from everyone. The rumor on the 6.1 stays the same, but 10mpg that thing will get a gas guzzler tax on it. I think someone did some test driving with a heavy foot.

Z tires are rated for "in excess of 149 mph". Exactly how much over 149 mph isn't specified.
Y tires are rated for 186 mph.
N - 87 mph (Temporary Spare Tires)
P - 93 mph
Q - 99 mph
R - 106 mph
S - 112 mph
T - 118 mph
U - 124 mph
H - 130 mph
V - 149 mph
Z - in excess of 149 mph
W - 168 mph
Y - 186 mph
It does get a little trickier than that though, since it is possible to have a Z rated tire with a W or Y rating included with the load rating.
For example...
275/40/ZR17 = rated for in excess of 149mph
275/40/ZR17 86Y = rated for 186mph
275/40/ZR17 (86Y) = rated for in excess of 186mph
If the load rating (86) is followed by a speed rating, then that is the max speed of the tire.
If it is a Z tire with the load rating and secondary speed rating in parentheses, then the max speed is in excess of the secondary speed rating.
Load rating and speed rating charts can be easily found at The Tire Rack.
This motor sounds like trash. They should do a "worst motors of 2004," this will take honors.
Even the Viper V10 gets better gas milage than that, in the RAM!!
Honestly, if they plan on putting this in production, I hope to god CAFE squeezes their necks for it.
I'm only taking this news with a grain of salt though....I can't believe that its only coming in Auto either...

If its true, its hard to swallow the fact that the 10 cylinder makes as much power and gets better gas milage.
Still a cool idea though, hopefully GM will follow suit with models like the SRT-x cars.

More from the same poster:
" No. Let me clairify. The vehicles we have don't have the multidisplacement. That doesn't mean the production vehicles won,t. The vehicles that we are currently working with are the same as the base LX 300C and Magnum w/ 5.7L. What we have done is removed the 5.7 and all the suspension pieces and engineered new suspension w/ big brakes and of course the 6.1 is dropped in plus some extras. The computer program for shutting off the fuel to the cylinders is not installed on our test cars because we dont need it to test. As far as the seats go they are not viper seats. They are just like the stock seats but they have the high sides like the viper and they have an embroidered SRT-8 on the head rest.
Honestly if I could take a camera into the garage I would but then I would get fired. I don't know how else to prove it to ya. So go ahead ask away. "

That doesn't seem right. I bet the guy who snagged the early photos of the new Vette is sitting pretty.

How soon is this thing coming to market. I need another car soon, but I can wait if the SRT-8 will be at dealers soon. Hawaii gets everything a day late and ten dollars more. NO 300CS are in Hawaii yet, even though they told me that they would have them in by April. Now they are saying May. Are there going to be Mopar upgrades for the existing 300Cs and Magnums? If so, when will it be offered.

Although if I drive around only in first and gun it from stop light to stop light I can get 10mpg too.
