Monte Carlo SS driving impressions.

Drove an '06 MC SS today. Nice enough car. Very comfortable. It seems to handle better than the Impala SS, which is strange, since Chevy lists identical chassis specs for both. Not quite GXP level though. One thing that I wish the MC SS had would be maybe a more communicative steering feel. It feels like the right amount of effort, but kinda on the numb side. Anyway, nice car. Red Tagged at about $27,500. Would look better if it were lowered acouple of inches.

Consider it a fast boulevard cruiser though, rather than a sporty agile coupe. The right segment will LOVE this car. Don't really know if that would be me however.

I'll tell you which Chevy I really like. The Cobalt SS. I sure am the wrong demographic for a car like that though. And I ABSOLUTELY cannot tolerate that rear wing....but that car is really more my style in the way it drives. The Recaros that come with the performance pkg feel alittle too snug for my midlife girth I found....you know, I'm not 25 anymore .

Re: Monte Carlo SS driving impressions.

And yet, I am 25...and I'll take the boulevard bruiser Maybe the MC handles better than the Impy because it weighs less? I'm really surprised how much I like the look of the MC. I was a little underwhelmed by the interior, but the outside? Despite being dated on the sides, it looks pretty damn good to me.

The only thing I don't like about my GP is the lack of oomph...so for me, it seems like the MC SS will be the perfect replacement when I'm ready.

Yeah, I was thinking weight.

And Jason, I said boulevard cruiser NOT bruiser.

That's weird, I've been thinking of the Monte as a replacement for my Z once my kid is born....that is, if I can part with it...

OK, chunky.

I'm a fan of the Cobalt SS too. Heck, I can even tolerate that wing.... kinda.

This is one vehicle that Chevy hit out the park IMHO.... better include the HHR too. I've seen about half a dozen today so far.

I too am a big fan of the Cobalt's looks, particulary the wing I am fond of. But I guess I fall right in there target market I want to own one, but not as much as the Mustang GT vert or 3-series vert.

Re: Monte Carlo SS driving impressions.

I just finally saw a MC SS yesterday, all black with gray ground effects.. very nice looking car. As for the Cobalt, I wouldn't mind having one either, I just hope they make an aftermarket wing that sits lower! I'm gonna wait a few years though and get one used.

Re: Monte Carlo SS driving impressions.

Finallly saw a new MC today....
Not impressed, at all. Granted, all I saw was it drive down the opposite direction but, I don't like the new front. I might be in the minority again on this (like the Impy) but I like the old ones better than the new ones.

Re: Monte Carlo SS driving impressions.

Charlie,

Cruiser, bruiser, its the same thing Not much difference, right???

Or not. All I can say is, I would imagine with the 18s and more refined tuning, it would handle better than my stock GP with upgraded 17s. If it handles somewhat better, for a driver I'm content. Like I said, I just want more power in my next car, and I really like a W-sized car. My slot car is in the garage for when I need it

If that's the case, you'll love it!
