Arrow Modern Syclone vs. Silv. SS

Now that the Lightning and Ram will soon be near or over 500hp machines, wouldn't a modern rendition of the legendary Syclone be a perfect ice breaker in the performance truck market. The new GMC Canyon would make a great basis for a new sports truck. Figure a truck version of the TrailBlazer concept with the Denali AWD system and twin turbos mated to the 4200 I6. With the traction, power and weight, this should be more than capable of fending off the SRT and Lightning. A Canyon all blacked out with a black soft bed cover, 19in wheels, and an attitude would kick some rear on the street. The original Syclone was to early to the party, now it's time to bring it back.

That'd sound nice. But i'd much rather them drop an 8.1L performance tuned big block in the SS.

The turn off on Syclones were the fact that they weren't much for hauling/towing and were more like cars. It's a truck, therefor it should have some utility.

but if they made it not as hard core as the old one it should do good.

But wouldn't a smaller truck like that have to be hardcore to compete with the likes of the upcoming sub-500hp Lightning and SRT-10? Wouldn't It being smaller translate into it not towing as much.

I know these are performance vehicles, but they are still trucks and need some utility. I've seen lightning owners towing their race cars to the race track.

Actually, if tuned correctly, it could tow just as much or more being that the vehicle is lighter to begin with. Just as th Vibe GT can tow 1500lbs with its 180hp 1.8 4cyl. Power to weight allows more towing capacity. I'm not claiming that this would be the ultimate hauler, but would do fine for most duties in the real world. An Envoy with a 4200 I6 and 4x4 has a maximum trailer weight of 6200. That's not too shabby its self, let alone one with twin turbos and a beefier suspension .

I like your idea . Far better to start with a vehicle at least 1000 lbs lighter than a Lightning if you're going for all-out performance. And the I6 motor is sweet just as it is, can you imagine what it would be like with blowers? That might be the first truck I'd actually consider buying.

don't forget a 500 hp sport truck won't tow that much (i might be wrong)

Who cares if a performance truck can haul a big load.It isnt why it was bought in the first place.Ive only seen 1 Lightning used for hauling dirt.See them hauling their "other" racing machine to the track many, many times.I hope this hauling thing doesnt lead to a justifiable reason for having the SS badge on a current GM truck

No it isnt that big of a load.If you look at it this way "most" trailers have dual wheels mounted just of center to the rear of the trailer.Which means the trailer's wheels carry most of the weight and not the tongue. One more thing power and weight of a vehicle matters in towing but gearing is the biggest factor. A 4.11 in a truck will tow more and better (providing the suspension is up to the task) then a equal truck with a 2.75 rear end gear.
