The Cobalt would make an excellent hatch.

Chevy already has an Aveo hatchback.

Looks pretty much the same to me, anyway.

Key word was " Looks "

I know the performance isn't there...

Then again, I really don't have any interest in a hot-rod rollerskate.

It's still just a "Sport compact". It's nothing special. Its not a muscle car, its not a sports car..........cars in this class dont appeal to me at all. It's like, cool who cares?

Give Saturn the Astra 3dr and 5dr hatbacks with a 4dr sedan to replace Ion, and give it the turbo 2.0 making 250hp and the 6spd manual trans, and you have the hottest compact, and its from GM.

<------Next car will be a hatchback

Ford has found a market with the Focus hatchbacks.

I also disagree with this sentiment. BMW has sold cars based on their European driving dynamics for years.

EDIT: Forgot to mention a lot of the VW fans HATE the new Jetta. I predict it will not sell as well as the car it replaces.

.....and what does the cheapest Bimmer cost nowadays? Unless I'm mistaken, base price for a 325i is $30,995.00. Hardly approachable by the average Joe looking for sporty transportation....

My SVT was once called the "most European sedan built by Americans" by Car and Driver, and it was still on the soft side. The sport/lux offerings have been increasing over the years but if I'm gonna spend $25k plus on a new car, it's going to begin with a "C" and end with an "O"

How many cars that are sold in both the US and in Europe have softer suspensions and/or automatic transmissions only for US models?

Re: Maybe one GM division ought to get a hatchback like this....

When I first saw that Opel Astra HPC, I thought it was the hottest looking car in it's class, (Err, if they made it it would be). And months later now I still think it looks really good. If they made one of them that was real lightweight w/ a rear-biased 4wd system, a 6 speed and a turbo 4 cylinder (275+ hp), it would be sick. It would be a perfect car to go Evo and STI hunting with and it would make a good daily driver too...The fact of the matter is there is no reason GM couldn't do this, so I don't know what they are waiting for...It's time to hit the imports where it hurts
