Let's put it this way...

my 2004 Tahoe will be paid off in April 2007.

I expect to be purchasing a new Chevrolet within 12 months of April '07.

I'll be the antagonist here and ask what new Chevrolet you will be buying?

Monte Carlo, Impala, Cobalt?

I just have a hard time believing with the time frame you laid down that you will be driving off of a Chevy dealer's lot with any Camaro, besides a 2002 or earlier.

A 2008 Camaro.

I wonder what gas prices will be like 3 years from now and if that will affect the high horsepower cars we have and future products.

I too have wondered about the gas prices.

As for your new 2008 Camaro, I see that you live in California. I guess maybe, you can have a 2008 Camaro in December of 2008.

I wasn't this cynical about the Camaro until just recently.

My guess would be that you will see a RWD Chevy coupe concept, that may or may not be called Camaro. It will be a styling excercise, to guage public reaction to the styling direction that GM is heading in. If it flops, there will be plenty of time before design freeze to come out with a new design. If everyone walks away with a boner (even the women), then the finished product will look something like it.

However, this still doesn't mean the program is approved, and it still doesn't give any hope for a 2007 Camaro (too close for GM's timetables, unless they streamline the program more than any other GM vehicle in history).

I would still guess for a 2009 or 2010 MY for production. This is the same timeframe as the Challenger, and then GM will know what changes, or direction Ford is heading in with the Mustang. This also gives them plenty of time to let it quietly go away, should fuel prices go too high.

Good Post, I agree.

Solstice was an accelerated program................45 months in October, if it is on the street by then.

I don't buy this "fuel too high" talk for a split second. First of all, the LSx line of engines gets outstanding gas milage, sometimes better than others' V6s when equipped with sticks. Second, are you going to tell me that Mustang might also be in danger of going bye-bye if fuel prices "climb too high?" Shoot, what is too much to pay for a gallon of gas? 10 years ago if you had told people $2.30 is cheap for a gallon of premium they would've choked. Yet RWD is coming on strong despite these prices, and the only thing better than big V8s are BIGGER V8s.

Production Solstice work was begun, if I remember correctly, only after the concept made such a good impression on the auto show circuit. Before then, it was simply a "what-if?" exercise. How do you know how long a Camaro has already been in development? We know that development on cars can happen looong before they ever get the green light.

I know that, but it was all the hype over how it was an example of GM's new streamlined methods.

mine too.
for all we know(especially after some of red's posts), the camaro could have gone into development 2 years ago. if thats the case we could see something at NAIAS that is really close to production. all i know is all my credit cards are paid off and i'm starting to put alot of extra money in the bank. i'll have more than enough for a nice down payment for a new chevy by then(or a pretty good down payment should a special edition 07 model come out).

Guys see my posts on vehicle development time earlier on this thread. It should put to rest any discussion on when the car could be on the street. If not, you will be having this same debate for years because that is how long it will take to get a car to market if "approved" today. And trust me, if the Camaro is approved, it will be known.

I agree, it certainly has been an interesting (and frusterating) ride, but I want a new car already.
