I got confirmation just the other day that we're going to like what's coming from Buick here soon in terms of a vehicle to "draw the people in."

I like what I heard.

Buick should be GM's Lexus, but priced better.

An entry-level Regal lineup, including a turbocharged performance model (what to name it? Hmmmm....) would be a good competitor for the Lexus IS lineup.

because it's stunning and should be sold here regardless of what it is. as others have noted the regal line could be an entry level competitor to other premium makes' entry level. if the buick line can be seen as representative of a new GM banner, rather than under the buick banner, then it can be more universal. buick still has some baggage issues.

the roadster and the opc insignia could help buick to be remade. and as others said here, these are what is needed to bring interest to the brand. other than that it doesn't stand a chance.

Agree. The new Buick should be a case of 'out with the old and in with the new'. Cannot have a legitimate Lexus competitor if Buick maintains its appeal to its old demographic.

I do know that something like this would certainly make me look at a Buick store.

It's no Pontiac... But it is pretty sweet!

I thought they were pretty much developing these cars in China....GM just sold its 2 millionth Buick in China.

Looks like GM are still quite fond of Opel... given their resistance to some of Magna's overtures.

the 4-door looks pretty bland to me. I think Buick would benefit from a high-volume sales car that is centered on what they want Buick to represent and a good marketing campaign in the US much more than they would benefit from a "halo car". A Halo car to me is an extreme, attention-getting, expensive car that doesn't sell in high numbers. That's detrimental when the brand really needs to forge its identity and get sales for dealerships that are losing their Pontiac volume.

Pontiac I would also say had minimum investment. The only piece it had that wasn't a based on a chassis from somewhere else at GM, was the Vibe, which was itself a rebadge of a Toyota. Buick in the US was pretty much the same. Everything in the show room was based off another chassis.

The Enclave is selling well. I bet this new LaCrosse does as well. This isn't going to be a volume brand in the US. It will sell at a better premium than Saturn or Olds. It also is extremely valuable in China. Even if it doesn't make money in the US, which I bet it will, it will make money in China. Keeping it alive in the US maybe worth it for that reason alone.

Saturn and Olds didn't have that. Neither did Pontiac. I can't really say what Olds competed with, but Saturn and Pontiac competed for the same buyers as Chevy. Chevy made money. The others needed to go.
