Lynn Myers leaves Pontiac
Lynn Myers leaves Pontiac
"Early retirement"....sounds like quite a loss for GM.

So what kind of industry veteran will be overseeing the Pontiac, GMC and Buick brands? The 40-year-old Fraleigh joined GM just three years ago after a stint as the marketing chief at PepsiCo, where he spearheaded campaigns for such soft drinks as Pepsi-Cola and Mountain Dew.
At least divisions are more focused on marketing as opposed to product development.
At least the article completely discredits the belief of one member of her being "ditzy". As I said before, she has been fantastic, and is a through & through expert in the car industry!
What is really disturbing is that the remanants of the "Brand Management" gang is taking over her position (2 people taking over a position that she did pretty much herself!) simply doesn't have the auto industry experience to be running a whole car division, though they probally were great running Pepsi.
The article correctly points out that if Solstice is a run away success (along with it's derivatives) she, along with small cars platform executive Lori Queen (who I meet at the LA show a few weeks ago at the Colbalt unveiling) probally won't get the credit they deserve, though they did more than Bob Lutz in creating the car.
Also worth noting is that Lynn Myers not only was the person who pushed for the GTO (with Lutz running blocker), but she is the person who put together the solid case for the next GTO, guranteeing it's future enough for the next version to be made here.
In shorthand for some of you real hard heads at this site, because of her creating & pushing the case for the GTO & it's future, she also created the opening and the chassis and components to bring back the Camaro (which died because of a lack of a new chassis in the 1st place).
Brief history: Pontiac grabbed the Monaro for it's GTO, while Chevy rejected it as the F5 Camaro. Pontiac made a strong case for GTO's place in their lineup & Kurt Ritter (Chevy's former General Manager) who was pushing for a new Camaro from day one, got in on this program. So when Holden redoes their cars in a couple of years, we'll also have a new GTO AND Camaro built here in the US because of her efforts & Kurt Ritter joining in.
Now... does my long running defense of the GTO and Lynn Myers start to make a little bit of sense???

actually the GTO has to be a HUGE hit till 07 for the Camaro to be a deffinate GO for GM AND I MMEAN DEFFINATE....if it is not doing that good..they might ax it before it gets to any development stage for American production in 07 right? or right???

With the limited availability of the Aussie-built GTO, I doubt it will ever qualify as a "huge hit". However, if Pontiac continues to tweak it through the '06 model year, it should retain it's desirability. That and it's image-boosting effect on Pontiac, should make a very stong case for not introducing a new Camaro (which in my opinion would be a good thing).

If it ends up getting the LS2 next year and the front and rear fascia changes and hoodscoops....That'll do the trick for a couple years till the 2007 comes out.
Heck they only have to sell 54,000 over 3 years. Something like 2/3's of the first year have been pre-ordered.
