Lutz's $100K Cadillac creeps toward reality, says GM actively pursuing ultraluxury sedan

DETROIT -- Robert Lutz's Cadillac dream might be closer to reality.
General Motors' vice chairman said last week that GM is actively pursuing a high-end, ultraluxury sedan that would sell for more than $100,000.
"One of the things we've got teed up is what we call the ULS, or ultraluxury sedan, that will penetrate up into a higher price position than any previous Cadillac," Lutz told a group of analysts.
One GM insider says Lutz has asked Cadillac to create a business case, but the vehicle has not received approval.
Another source familiar with future product says the vehicle likely will be built within "three or four years."
A luxury Cadillac has been a pet project of Lutz's ever since GM unveiled the dramatic rear-drive Cadillac Sixteen concept car at the 2003 Detroit auto show.
Lutz reaffirmed that GM will not build the Sixteen, which had a V-16 engine. But other options exist, including a V-12 engine GM is developing.
Lutz said a $100,000-plus Cadillac could be "a high-margin proposition."

I also would like to see this car made. MB and BMW didn't make their reputation as one of the best luxury cars by being the discount brand. If Cadillac wants to be the "Standard of the World" again, they need to charge prices that reflect it.

Caddy is doing so much better since it's redesign when Lutz came in.
Anyone have actual figures for their market share/volume changes? I know the age of the average buyer has fallen like a brick.

And this superbowl we get the XLR-V on film
Re: Lutz's $100K Cadillac creeps toward reality
Even though it will be a $100,000, it still needs to be a good value when compared to the competition. V12 and every tech gismo GM has needs to go into this car. heated & cool seats and cup holders all around, ever seat. The need to make $80,000 Audi A8 and BMW 745i customers feel like they are driving a hyundia. Make them feel like it is a better value to spend $20,000 more for a V12 Caddy.
Re: Lutz's $100K Cadillac creeps toward reality
EXACTLY!! The CTS and STS offer more for the buck then the BMW and MB counterparts IMO. The "ULS" should be no different. Caddy should offer the most bang for the buck, yet not be a "bargin" type car.

Thats what scares me... I hope they don't plan on just using parts bin stuff, tape on a few fancy trim pieces, and call it a personalized $100k car..
Re: Lutz's $100K Cadillac creeps toward reality
I just hope someone at Cadillac steps up and lets this one get around the alphanumeric naming thing. This thing deserves a NAME, marketing research be damned.

Actually the escalade is far more appealing then any suburban. Also they sell for 55k loaded. I feel caddy is moveing in the right direction, with the fat cutting of the lesser models like catera etc. You want to be a luxury car maker you have to make luxury cars and not claim other wise. BMW has cars rangeing from 28k to 120k. Nice range to cater to buyers of all potential markets. As it stands right now caddy has the 28-77k when the STS-V comes out. However, caddy still doesnt have enough options or models to compete with BMW or MB on a serious scale. The 760i offers a v12 nearly 450hp navigation, leather, all options rear shade etc. For around 99k dollars. Thats what Caddy needs to have in there lineup to help take on BMW in serious terms. Otherwise they are just going to be takeing the wanna be YUPPIES instead of the brand loyal CEO's that wont ride in anything other then a MB or BMW 5-7 series.
