Re: Things that make you go hmmmmmmm

It is a new marketing idea, in which they have picked out 15 or so cities across the country to house a billboard (or billboards) with a single word. The 15 cities put together will make up a sentence, I think. I didn't click on your link, but I read an article/blurb about it the other day. I'm not sure what the message will say, but I think the article said it was something about the future of transportation and how GM is working to change it. So that leads me to believe it is most likely going to reference the "hydrogen economy" that GM has talked about for the last few years. Maybe hybrids or something instead (or also), but my first guess would be hydrogen.

I've seen print ads lately by Shell that mention research into hydrogen they have done/are doing with GM and others. One of the ads mentions that the first commercial hydrogen refueling station is up and running (I forget where).

Speculation says that it means OnStar will be available on every new GM vehicle....

Hmmm, if that is the correct message, then yes, it would certainly seem to point to OnStar. So much for my hydrogen speculation. :blah:

The guy who did the flash must have left it up, and for a short time the saying was there....
I assume its OnStar, but standard? I dunno...dont like that idea AT ALL. I do not want Big Pappa GM recording my 100mph blasts in my future Camaro.
Hell, I dont want GM watching me 100mph in my Maxx.

Only 100mph?

You've been slacking off... hell, that ain't even a full quarter mile in most F-cars.

Standard Onstar .... WTF .... I have it now and can't get most of the services for it because of where I live. Last time I buy a car with something useless ... errrr .... unless it's really fast

I was more or less talking about daily driving....not drag racing.
And there is a 110mph speed limiter in the Maxx.

Re: Things that make you go hmmmmmmm

I believe that the reference is to OnStar and the development of OBD – III. Supposedly GM will integrate OnStar into the next generation of on board diagnostics. Also from what I have heard is that GM MAY engineer in components that will allow them to track and record all information that the little black box logs. Now from what I have heard this last little bit is just speculation, but it leaves me a little wary about any new car I purchase that has OnStar or whenever OBD – III comes out. This whole thing opens up the topic of big brother and lots of other things I don’t even want to think about.

That is how it starts out. They say they are just monitoring for statistics, and not tracking individuals. Next thing you know a report comes out saying 99% of people drive over 65mph, 20% do 100mph+ that sparks the attention of the politicians. Then 20 years from now, Gov't passes a law allowing your car to snitch on you and when you do 75 in a 65 you get a nice ticket in the mail telling you the you owe $200 for your fine. FBI is already using Onstar to listen in on people get a toggle switch for your Onstar mic.

You think they are gunna mail it to you? You are gunna get a message over the OnStar saying you have been ticketed, or get an email from GM.
I would hate to have On Star on my Camaro. Maybe on my family car with my wife and kids...but no f'ing way do I want it on my car.

Or maybe they'll actually raise the speed limit.

Take yourself out onto the nearest major highway, and drive along it for half an hour. Then come back and tell me without any reservations that you really want those twits out there to be allowed in the car in the first place, let alone allowed to go any faster than they already are.

Are we capable of going faster? Absolutely. Is the current driving skill level out there capable of it? Not even close.
