Lutz wants a new GTO.
Re: Lutz wants a new GTO.
It's great that Bob Lutz is on record regarding the GTO.
But there is no evidence that ANYONE is actually doing any work on one anywhere. Not here, not in Australia.
Maybe something will break loose in afew months...but nothing yet.
Also, I can't imagine Pontiac getting more than one Zeta thru it's BPG sales channel.
Here's some questions we should be asking:
-If Pontiac only gets one Zeta, would it be a sedan or coupe?
-And would GM spend the cash on a larger than Camaro coupe, simply for Pontiac to sell a relatively low number of them?
-Even if such a coupe were marketed as a "Grand Prix" with a top of the line GTO package on it, how many of these coupes could Pontiac sell and at what price point?
- And....what about this quad coupe? Is this what will make the business case for Pontiac?

What, you looking for a press release on GM's website or something?

The million dollar question is what's going to happen to the Grand Prix. Is the Grand prix going to be replaced, or is a RWD sedan going to sell along side it?
With the Lecrosse and new Impala seeming like their going to be around awhile, it's concievable that GM might continue making the GP for a little while longer with a reskining.
- And....what about this quad coupe? Is this what will make the business case for Pontiac?

Is it a "quad" coupe, or is it a proper coupe?
Is the GTO going to be what the car itself is called, or is it going to be a package on a model with a name?
You'd feel pretty dumb if the car is called a Firebird and the top model is called GTO, wouldn't you?

Lets wait for things to play out here before taking cyinide Kool-Aide.

Re: Lutz wants a new GTO.
Folks it is time to wake up and realize the American press has no clue to what GM is doing!!!!
GM RWD is being developed in the land down under and is father along than many here realize.
Even folks that work at GM here do not know what is all going on down under. So when they say programs are not approved and nothing is going on you might want to use some caution as the people connected to these cars are indicating different.
The GTO is in the mix as well as a Camaro and 4 door sedans. Someone in Detroit keep trying to say different and the press runs with it.
Keep your eyes open for a Impala the will blow minds!!!! It is going to be like the Camaro, A little retro 60's with a lot of 21 century tech and updated styling.
Like noted above GM does not change it's mind day to day. A lot of what we are hearing is stuff that was decided 6 months to a year ago.
Thank God for people like guionM, Lutz and Fbodfather who have been preaching the truth and time has proven them correct the vast majority of the time. Take a look at their post as they don't delete what they put on this site.
Anyway I hope this puts the Firebird coming back to rest finally. The key people at GM had made it clear several times it is not in GM's best interest to do a Firebird in the forseeable future.
Things are in the works and don't beleive everything you read in the press!! Most of us here should know that by now!!! Also if your going to follow post follow folks that are involved as they are you best scource of info your going to get.
GM may have not worked like this before but they are now!

Re: Lutz wants a new GTO.
guionM: If Buick receives a model on the Zeta platform, is it likely to be a large 4-door (i.e., a rebadged Holden)? Is the name "Invicta" still viable? Or is the Lucerne sufficient for that market? Could it be a 2-door convertible, whether called "Velite" or "Riviera"? Thank you.
Re: Lutz wants a new GTO.
Charlie's question: "If Pontiac gets one Zeta, will it be a coupe or sedan?"
Which leads me to believe what I've kind of been thinking for a while now....One Zeta car, the sedan being the new Grand Prix and the coupe getting different sheet metal, performance upgrades, and badged as a GTO.
I could go with that.

We didn't have a press release, or even a peep out of GM before Jan. on the Camaro. Yet we had solid evidence...in fact even details. And we had/have certain knowledge that after initial work in NA, Camaro was transferred to Australia for the bulk of engineering.
No such evidence exists for GTO. Maybe, we're in for a surprise...who knows. Even if it were being secretly developed in Australia, it wouldn't be in a vacuum.

People at GMNA who are working these programs don't know what's going on......and you're telling us so.
If it's in Australia, they may not be privy to every specific detail.......BUT THEY WOULD KNOW THE PROGRAM IS BEING WORKED IN AUSTRALIA.
