In short - yes. There are other engines in the family with the 1.4L, but not ready to go just yet. By the time the Aveo RS is ready for showrooms they should be, so there is hope.

GM is not about to abandon the "260hp turbo pocket rocket" segment. With Ford talking about a ~260hp Focus and the ~260hp Mazdaspeed3 already solidly placed in the states, *and* a solid Cobalt SS following, they know better. I worry that a 4 door Cruze SS will not attract a 2 door Cobalt SS buyer though, and wonder what GM plans to replace the lil coupe with.

For the Aveo RS though, I would prefer to see (over a larger engine) a GMPP package (just as the LNF had) to boost power to the 180hp-200hp range.

Yeah, first you were comparing times from an actual dragstrip against magazine times recorded using a GPS box -- and then you were looking at videos posted by Cobalt SS owners which, of course, are for the most part only going to show Cobalt SSes winning.

It wasn't clear, however I believe that's in the Opel Astra.

The Opel Corsa OPC Charlie was referring to actually has a different 1.6L turbo that puts out 189hp.

They should just put the LS9 in it. They could mount it in the middle like a Renault Clio V6 Sport

I'd rock an Aveo with 200ish HP. Any ideas on weight yet?

I rented a Ford Focus once in 2003 to drive about 2 hours in each direction. My arms got tired rather quickly for not having center armrest.

As I drive my Mazda3, I'm glad they have telescoping steering wheel. Without it, the seating position would be more unnatural than it is. With many cars, either my arms are comfortable but my knees are hitting the dashboard, or my legs are comfortable, and I stretch my arms (especially uncomfortable when wearing a winter jacket). And no, I don't suffer from having T-Rex arms.

So far, my A6 has been the most comfortable car I've ever had/driven. The seating position is A1, so are the seats and the visibility. Slight gripe about it, though - the steering wheel is about 1/4 inch too low, so that it blocks the upper numbers on the speedometer when I adjust my seat to the most comfortable (and quite upright) position.

“We're showing it with a 1.4 [liter] turbo, but [Vice Chairman] Tom Stephens and I are not satisfied with a 1.4 turbo,” Lutz said. “We'd like something with a little more horsepower, please. So we're working on that.”

The five-door hatchback is longer and wider and has more space than the current Aveo. Motorcycle styling inspired designers to give the show car protruding headlights and taillights, Chevrolet said. The Aveo also has 19-inch wheels designed to appeal to enthusiasts.
Two things:

1. Can't they tweak the turbo to generate closer to 160-170 HP?

2. With this Aveo being longer and wider, I can see how it will compete with GTI before too long size-wise. Perhaps the next generation will be able to compete with a Suburban?

LNF puts out 130HP/liter , if the 1.4L did then it would be doing 182HP. Seems doable.

The GTI also weighs in around 3000 lbs with its 200 hp . I would hope the weight wouldnt even be close to that with the Aveo RS , the turco Cobalt was sitting around 2900 . With the weight of the Aveo they really would not need to make big power #'s if it handled as well as the turbo Cobalt . LNF type #'s may be way overkill , 170-200 range would be good .

138hp isn't much, but it is a small car. LNF, please.

Oh, and I'd love to see a "Z24-esque" version of the Cruze. With a 3.6

More like 3100 lbs for a base 2-door. Add another 2 doors, and a couple of options, and it's getting closer to 3200 lbs. Although it's not a porker, it's not a lightweight either.

The heaviest 2009 Aveo weighed in at 2550 lbs (5 door). Since the next one is bigger, wider, taller, I'd expect the weight to get closer to 2700 lbs. 2800 lbs tops.

Meaning, if it had a turbo engine (area under the curve matters), it didn't need to generate more than 170 HP to have similar power-to-weight ratio to the GTI.

With LaCrosse going 4-cylinder only, there is no chance in hell . Neither is there a need for it.

But seriously, why bother with putting a heavy 3.6DI into a FWD car? Just hook up a LNF with 260 - 280 HP, and that's the most the car needs.

edit: corrected from "all" to "the most"
