The other nagging question on many Holden
enthusiasts’ lips is the status of the future Monaro,
given that the last of the breed, the CV8-Z is now
on sale with a production run of 1200 coupes
before the Monaro name bites the dust.
Mr Lutz was reluctant to go on the record
about the car, or whether it would piggyback off
a future GTO model out of the US.
However, he did confi rm: “That’s in the process
of being fi gured out.”
He also said it was too early to speculate on
whether the Zeta platform would serve as a
replacement for the GTO, underpinning the new
car’s design.

Well, if they don't use Zeta what's left? A Caddy structure? Maybe Zeta will be too small for what they want the GTO to be? Which would be good for the people wanting a small Camaro...

Sounds like the program has not been approved by the board since a decision hasn't been made. But hey if the choice were made today it would be 1.5-2 years out.
They may try to piggyback the Monaro off the Camaro's Sigma lite.
Re: Lutz says: Too early to tell if Zeta will underpin next GTO.
I dont see why Holden couldn't build a Zeta Monaro and GMNA couldn't build a Zigma-Sigma lite (what is the offical name?) GTO and Camaro. Although I'd be disappointed if the Camaro had a sister car and it was not called the Firebird.
Re: Lutz says: Too early to tell if Zeta will underpin next GTO.
Just some thoughts.....
- This pretty much confirms that a new GTO is not around the corner.
- The Zeta nomenclature seems to apply to the "new" architecture currently being developed in NA and not necessarily to Holden's V-car. Eventhough VE will share some components with (new) Zeta.
- Holden wants a Monaro, but doesn't have two nickels to rub together to develop one. They're following developements on the "Chevy coupe" program very closely, in order to see what might be applied to their coupe needs.
- If it's too early to speculate if Zeta will be used on GTO...what might that mean?
* No GTO?
* GTO based on VE?
* VZ Monaro/GTO brought up to 2007 US crash standards and possibly moving assembly to a new DAT facility in Korea?
Lots of ways to read Lutz's comments on that.

Charlie...
KOREA?????????????????????
Please, please tell me you're kidding. I've got love for Australia. But a Korean/American muscle car? Excuse me while I go puke...
And I thought the Chinese engine in the Equinox was bad enough...god help GM if they build a Korean GTO.

Just speculation on my part.
If GTO is not based on Zeta, that only leaves afew alternatives.....
No GTO.
A GTO NOT based on a RWD architecture.
A V-car based GTO, (VZ or VE).
I don't see a VE coupe on the horizon. But I think Holden would like to continue manufacture of the VZ coupe if Pontiac can make a business case for it. Also a new GM-DAT plant will be built in Korea which Holden will control.
I don't know, just thinking out loud..............

Not making fun of the idea, but I could hear the screaming in advance when I read that line!

would they add the tooling to a line at their factory for it or export the cars from NA and rebadge ala GTO???
