Didn't they register a trademark for an "8Speed" logo a while back? Could they have one in the works for the "ULS"?

Sweet I guess this means that GM is serious about competing with BMW, Audi and M-B. They need this car. I won't say the XLR was a mistake but GM didn't execute it all the way. When you get to super luxo vehicles and charge over $100k buyers have no patience for cut corners.

V12 + 8 speed auto =

Cadillac needs this. You can argue that mainstream GM need more attention and I agree they do. But should Cadillac be choked off to do that? Cadillac needs to be able to go head to head with MB, BMW, and Audi. It is a lot more prestigious to have a V12 than the a V8 from a Chevy not matter how good that V8 is. V12 > S/C V8 when it comes to the luxury market too. Escalade-V and the DTS replacement (ULS) both need an engine like this.

Only problem with that list when comparing it to this is that the list states it is a 7.5L, Lutz says it is a 7.2

In case anyone was wondering, the architecture this monstrosity will "apparently" be placed in is Zeta, and it will "apparently" have the Zeta long front rails used on Camaro. Zeta Long-long-long in "Lutz-speak" (Camaro is long-Short-short, the VE is medium-medium-medium, the WM is medium-long-medium, and the large coupe will supposedly be medium-medium-short).

In theory.... and this is only my speculation based on what I know about Zeta... this engine should be able to fit under the hood of the long nosed Camaro from a structural standpoint (packaging issues, including hood height not withstanding).

Oh God. They haven't finished saying they would pay 40k for a LS7 Camaro yet.

GM mainly is concetrating on high volume cars. look at all the cars that have recently come out, were shown, or that we know are coming all pretty awesome and often award winning.

There is a large enough market for the high luxury cars like the S class to make GM entering it make sense. And if it is based off of zeta like Guy said and it is more or less just putting 2 v6's together, then development costs should be relatively less

Interesting Guy, Although the concept of a V12 Camaro might be a little ridiculous.

What kind of weight is this engine expected to have?

Those S-Class cars weigh a ton if I remember correctly, perhaps GM can use some of that Holden voodoo weight loss.

Thats assuming there is a new XLR on the way.

Right now its the oldest car in the lineup and has sold under expectation the whole time. And its gone pretty much its entire life without being touched.

If that wasn't enough to make one think its going on hiatus, this new engine makes me think they're more likely to make this ULS and start work on a more thoroughbred supercar then just shoe horn it into the XLR...

that's the smartest thing i've heard all day.
The XLR looks awesome....but is slow....very slow...:blah:
The thing looks like it has a v12 in it, so they might as well drop this one in there to make things right.

Well, what if it wasn't planned, but the Camaro was designed to fit one?
If that is/was the case...
Then a v10 mustang would be slaughtered by a v12 Camaro.

You wont see a V12 Camaro if its going to go into a 100k+ Super Caddy.
That would probably be the dumbest GM could do, and a great way to take away any prestige of the V12 super caddy.
"My V12 S600 is a fantastic machine"
"Well my V12 ULS out performs it in every way, and has more luxuious features then your MB"
"Yes well, isnt that the same engine that is in a Camero..."
"uh..yeah...it is"

Done.

Get it out of your heads. Cant you guys just enjoy a supercharged pushrod motor?
