Ah, so the Avalon is bloated, but the Lucerne I assume isn't? To me all cars in this class are a bit 'bloated'... it's part of what their market wants in a car.
Should I be surprised that you'd want the Lucerne over the Avalon to such an extreme? I can tell ya why, too. It has a Buick badge on it. That's why.
Come up with something quantitative please.
I'm aware that the Lucerne has a very enviable feature-set including some features that the Avalon does not have... however most of those features don't come around until the Lucerne hits the 40,000 dollar sticker price mark, at which point I can't imagine anyone in their right mind woul consider the Lucerne with so many other incredible cars in the 40k dollar range (including others from GM!)
Give the lucerne a less generic old person looking interior, a 6-speed instead of a 4-speed automatic, and a V6 motor that actually belongs in a car in this price range and then I'll give it more consideration.

And yea, I can't have anything objective about style. I'm just saying I generally like the Lucerne better than the Avalon. I don't like the front of the Lucerne, but the portholes and rear end are pretty enviable imo. The Avalon to me, just looks too "frumpy" from the side, the rear isn't horrible, just a little "different", and the front screams generic Caddy-ripoff to me (although I could see how they got there from the old Avalon).
