LS9/LS8/LSA..are they compatible with CAFE?

Thoughts. Haven't seen any mpg data released on these yet.

Define compatible? These engines are so low volume I don't think it will make a big difference. GM has already said that the LS9 will have a gas guzzler tax. It wouldn't surprise me if the LSA does, too. That means less than 22 mpg (epa) combined city/hwy. The LS8 might do better (it's the non-supercharged LS7 replacement, right?).

Nonetheless, you're only talking about offsetting 2000 ZR1s and probably not a whole lot more CTS-Vs.

It's supposedly another 6.2 supercharged engine...but, indeed - meant to be an LS7 replacment. I think....

but I agree...low volume = negligable for CAFE (especially since it's not 2022 or whatever, yet.) I almost feel as though these powerplants are just sending the LS-series out with a bang...

I think as long as two Aveos are sold for every one LS9/LS8/LSA car then they will be CAFE compatible.

I'd guess you could figure CTSV, Z/28, Z06, ZR1 production combined at 30-40,000 annual units?

That takes out alot of Aveos.

Er... the ZR1 is supposed to sell 1500 units/year, with the CTS-V maybe adding another 2500. I guess the Z/28 could add 5,000/year to that number. Total, I think we're talking less than 10K supercharged GenIVs per year.

Of any engines in the GM lineup, I think these will be the least affected by CAFE.

What's Z06 production, 8 or 9K per year? Assuming it's the same when the LS8 replaces the LS7. I was thinking Z/28 production would be higher than Z06.

Please stop with all this talk of a supercharged Z28. I'm getting an upset stomach.

No. I'm not going to get used to it. Ever. And I don't need to have eleventy billion hp. 450 NA horsies would be just fine.

anything is compatible with cafe. cafe is a govt organization which means they love fines. oems can sell a 17 mpg car in 2020 with only a 1000 dollar fine to cafe, charge it to the game

New CAFE requirements are 35mpg for 2020, but higher mileage than todays requirements start getting phased in for 2011 and go up every year until it reaches 35mpg for 2020. These motors will be gone by then. Enjoy them while you can for the next 6 to 8 years.

They could just re-design them into performance and economy modes, but nobody wants to drive a 120hp 6.2L Supercharged V8 that gets 30mpg.
