I don't think we'll see an Ls7 in the 5th gen either. Dry sump, titanium rods, etc....sounds a bit pricey and exotic. GM will probably limit it to their flagship vette and V-series cars. The GT's blown 5.4 as it stands now is definitly too pricey for the Cobra as well seeing as how the crate motor alone MSRP's for more than a 2004 Cobra convertible
. I think a sub-425-to-450hp N/A 5.4 4valve, S/c'ed low-boost 3valve 5.4, or N/A 6.2L (hot-rodded version of hurricane motor) is more realistic in the Cobra from a price point. And the 5th gen will probably have a 400hp Ls2 with maybe an SS package adding on 10hp. It probably won't top the Cobra, but it'll be available in a much cheaper z28, and should put a hurting on all the other mustang trims other than Cobra which is fine in my book.
Re: LS7 in next Camaro Z28?
If it can't be had in a Z06 "race-style" Z28 (not saying some other 420-450 HP engine wouldn't be fine) then it should be in a limited ZL1 model. It would cost, but still, it should be very limited and purposely built for racing.
Re: LS7 in next Camaro Z28?
The LS7 will be a specially made engine at a facility GM is setting up to hand assemble these and other engines. Much like Ford's facility hand assembling Mustang Cobra and Ford GT engines.
As you may expect, only top level GM cars will get this engine. Currently, that means Cadillac CTS-V and the Chevrolet Corvette Z06.
I have reason to believe each GM-NA division (save Saturn) will eventially have ONE car that carries this engine.
That means the GTO is a candidate (Holden Monaro is likely to get one).
That also means Chevy's F-body isn't.
