isn't it a little early? if they are readying it now that means it could be ready for 2005 MY or the same year the C6 comes out. would GM really release the LS2 in the GTO the same year it comes out on the C6???

I think Holden would for the home market. But then it makes no sense to keep the gen III in the 18K they send over to the states. ANd why use LS6 and gen 4 motors that are rated the same? My bet is the new motors are better and make the same power.

I'd still be on your site posting Brenden, if all that swearing didn't make my works firewall kick in and class "newagegto" as offensive

LS2 will probably cost as much or less to build as the LS6 plus get better milage and other features. It is probably more practicle to just use the LS2

Not real surprising here... I would imagine all of the vehicles running the LS1/LS6 engines will roll over to the new LS2/LSx (LS7?) setups in a relatively short period of time...

I have to agree here. GM wouldn't unless they really had a cost advantage like keeping the LT1 in the F-body in 97 when the C5 went to the LS1. But that was partly due to slow ramp-ups in production. Because eventually the LS1/6 and Vortech engines all shared parts by 99. But the switch from the iron block to the LS1 was more major than the current update.

This seems to be similar but this time GM will have more sharing parts with the Gen III and Gen IV small blocks. And thus easier to make provisions for higher production numbers sooner.
I suspect in the next year or so Vortech will unveil a new engine series to coincide with the changes in the Gen IV.

Either way its good news or the GTO, those who don't buy an 04. The rumored 6.0L Gen IV SB is said to put down 400hp in the C6. That along with true dual exit exhaust would be a very welcome change to the GTO.

Doesn't surprise me that the GTO will get the LS2 along with the C6 Vette. Wouldn't really make any difference between the two because the Vette will be lighter and have better suspension. GM and their Halo Car hehe. The LS7 is slated to be in the C6 Z06 a year after the C6 debutes. I doubt the GTO will share that.

Also from the same person, he has said it sounds fantastic, and one of the engineers said it was 300kw but that is to early to be confirmed
