Lotus Elise

When the Elise hits US Shores will it be equiped with the Ecotec powerplant like it's Opedl speedster platform mate or are the rumors of toyta power true?

Lotus USA has a date for Elise sales in the USA on there webpage.

The engine for US import hasnt been determined yet. Lotus is testing the 1.8 litre 180 hp toyota engine in Elise right now. This would be a screamer in a 2000lb car. Believe cost will be high 30's. The elise does have an aluminum chassis.

It just seems more logical to used a already in place engine. (ecotech in the speedster) Than a smaller less potenial motor like the toyota unit. There are race blocks/heads for the GM unit.

So, around the same price as the upcoming Honda S2200 but at a thousand less punds 50 less HP. Much better frame and handling. Just think what a simple bolt on can do to a 190-200hp 2k or less pound car!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Sounds pretty cool either way, but I'd be more interested in one with the Honda B18, like what's being imported right now by some third-party vendor

Ya the Elise is very light, very agile, and a great handler. It will be quick thats for sure and Im sure there will be bolt ons to make that little go kart move even faster. Just watch out for all those big huge trucks driving around! It definitly should be less than 40G!....Go Lotus
