if the L-68 replaces the LS1, i can only wonder what it would go in, unless gm decides to put it in all the base model vettes, but i don't think that they'd develop 2 engines for 1 car ,wahhoooo

Well, I think the idea is that the "L68" would be the base Corvette engine... and the "LS7" would be the "Z06" variant.

I also thought that the base 6.0 for the Vette was going to be called LS2.. It was even noted on that mule car's dash from a few months back, as LS2...

I had also heard the term "LZ1" thrown around as well...

The next GTO, the next edition CTS, and whatever rear drive performance cars crop up in 2005-2007.

There's already info out about the Z-16 Commemorative Edition for 04.

Quote from ILUVLS1S

I got this info from Corvette Forum and Z06Vette.com.

NEW COLORS FOR 2004 (so far) 19U LEMANS DARK BLUE, 67U MACHINE SILVER AND GET THIS....86U, YEP, MAGNETIC RED METALLIC II COMING BACK and EVEN AVAILABLE ON Z06 TOO! TRYING TO GET MORE INFO BUT LOOK FOR THE "Z-16" COMMEMORATIVE PACKGE CORVETTE.....MORE SOON.......
THANKS ALL,
RICK "CORVETTE" CONTI
NOTE:
ALSO LOOK FOR A SPECIAL COLLECTORS EDITION LEATHER SEAT FOR Z06 (black) AND A SPECIAL SEAT/INTERIOR FOR COUPES AND CONVERTIBLES - SOMETHING CALLED "SHALE!?"
WAS JUST CONTACTED BY an outside source that is a good guy, don't think he would feed me any bull...said something about the Z16 Package for Z06 would be a 450HP car! The last Hurrah until the Z comes back in 2006.....that we'll have to wait and see...the other info I gave you , is right on!

Looks like the Corvette get's a 6.0 LS1 making 450 hp for 04.

As for mpfarout saying the 04 gets the Gen IV motor, NOT TRUE that's going into the C6!

It wouldn't surprise me that at the Chicago show they have a Z-16!

BTW: Z16 was the RPO code for the 96 GRAND SPORT... since I would assume a Collector Edition to be a given, it looks like Chevy may in fact, run two special editions like 96....

What's interesting is that the L68 and LS7 codes have already been used before, they're not new. The L68 was a 4-cylinder

Guess Who, I'm not trying to flame you or anything, I want to believe you, but you're giving contradicting info now with the twin turbo comment now. Which is making me trust you less as a credible source. Corvette is about naturally aspirated power and GM is producing a line of engines that will be high power, and NA. A twin turbo motor is contradicts this foundation.

Also it is known that GM powertrain has been developing larger displacement engines and has been displaying that within concept Corvettes including the Tiger Shark and the White Shark. The range of displacement I hear from this board ranges from 6.0L, 6.4L, 6.6L, to 7.0L. I've been at this board for a while, I think two years now and I've heard these figures be tossed around. But anyone could claim that the Corvette will have this certain motor and we would believe it due to the rumors we've heard. But I'm a trusting person, I'd want to believe you. I remember the whole controversey when Red Planet came on the board and many of us didn't believe him that it was someone high up on the Camaro food chain until Debler put his foot down and told us it was. In Debler, we trust. Now I would want to believe you on the 6.6L comment, but then anyone could say it. Mpfarout's lack of spacing and capitalization also looks suspicious to me while Red has perfect and proper grammar and spelling. But I'm a trusting individual.

But you comment on a twin turbo L68. Now if you are proposing 512hp for a 6.6L, that sounds about correct for a mild 6.6L LS6 engine. But a twin turbo 6.6L would have to be producing numbers over 700hp! I don't even think the Ferrari Enzo is making power like that. But you claim 512hp. I don't believe there is a market for a 700hp Corvette anyways. That seems silly. But anyways, that's a major contradiction right there if you're trying to feed us that information.

So its not that I'm trying to flame you. I want to believe you but I'm very suspicious and your contradictions are making me believe that you are not correlated with the Corvette team or GM powertrain, along with Mpfarout. But I DO want to believe you!

Can you tell us anything that would change my mind or prove your insider status?

I think when he was talking about a twin turbo L68, he was refering to the 4 cylinder L68. It was a joke.

Does anyone else think that 5000 untis is a lot for a 6.6L 512HP limited production Vette? I could see them making 500.

I think the number is high. For 2004 I'm guessing 0 will be the accurate number.
