I hope your right, I think the LS1 bored and stroked maxes out at 396 or 6.6L, so that # sounds like it could be real. Plus the Silverado SS concept V8 was a 6.6L. 5000 seems like a lot for a limited production run. I think they make about 6000 Z06s. Dodge makes like 3K-4K Vipers I beleive.

Dont think mpfarout is feeding you some BS..He has a good reason for saying what he did (not saying you are or anything).A lil food for thought would be this LINK which isnt where he got his info....But it helps his reason for saying that the Vette will have this power/displacment..

He deserves a for letting you guys know about this. You might see it in Chicago who knows?

Do any of you BIG hitters of info know anything about this "yet"?... This is definately some inside info

But that's the Gen III small block in that concept. The Gen IV will be a completely new design and I have yet to see anytihng about the Gen IV yet. I am still doubtful about this info and its source. We've heard this rumor before though. I remember way back we didn't believe Red Planet until JasonD came out and confirmed the credibility of the source.

Ill capture a screen shot for you to remember what you said

Trust him he is right on the money.I dont blame anyone for doubting anybody on the net.Rumors are like bung holes everyone has one.BUT He SAID he SEEN some of the parts that will be used for this car's engine. And If you can stop for a second and think about it , He didnt say I "HEARD" this car "might" be coming. He was told what the parts were for whence why he came here to tell you all about it.

Think of this as Red Planet Prt2 if you will.

Thumbs up

About a year or so ago, another member here (he'll mention who he is if he want's his name mentioned ) said something about a 7.0 liter C6 engine being done over at GM Powertrain, and I recall something also mentioned at a Corvette site as well. This is independent of my own discovery of a larger displacement LS1 type engine being tested at GM, so I'd give mpfarout a tentative thumbs up in credibility.

I would not be surprised to see something new in the last C5, though GM tends to shy away from special engines(40th anniverdary Vette, 50th Annveridary Vette, etc) , they do tend to give the last year of a Corvette Generation something special...

Examples:

1962 Corvette.. last of the C1, has a 1-year only Fuel Injection Setup.

1967 Corvette.. last of the C2, first to have the 427.

1982 Corvette.. last of the C3, debuts the CrossFire engine for the upcoming C4.

1996 Corvette.. last of the C4, offered the LT4 motor... a one year only powerplant.

2004 Corvette.. last of the C5... ???

Very possible....

I also expect the tradition of the Collector Editiotn (82 & 96) to carry on for 04, and they might even do a Grand Sport or something like it...

Close enough, but the 427 showed up for '66. You're probably thinking about the L88, which came in '67, and carried over into the early C3's.

Yes, I should have been more specific... I meant the mighty L88.

Thanks!

Sounds like BS to me...

There's already info out about the Z-16 Commemorative Edition for 04.

Quote from ILUVLS1S

I got this info from Corvette Forum and Z06Vette.com.

NEW COLORS FOR 2004 (so far) 19U LEMANS DARK BLUE, 67U MACHINE SILVER AND GET THIS....86U, YEP, MAGNETIC RED METALLIC II COMING BACK and EVEN AVAILABLE ON Z06 TOO! TRYING TO GET MORE INFO BUT LOOK FOR THE "Z-16" COMMEMORATIVE PACKGE CORVETTE.....MORE SOON.......
THANKS ALL,
RICK "CORVETTE" CONTI
NOTE:
ALSO LOOK FOR A SPECIAL COLLECTORS EDITION LEATHER SEAT FOR Z06 (black) AND A SPECIAL SEAT/INTERIOR FOR COUPES AND CONVERTIBLES - SOMETHING CALLED "SHALE!?"
WAS JUST CONTACTED BY an outside source that is a good guy, don't think he would feed me any bull...said something about the Z16 Package for Z06 would be a 450HP car! The last Hurrah until the Z comes back in 2006.....that we'll have to wait and see...the other info I gave you , is right on!

Looks like the Corvette get's a 6.0 LS1 making 450 hp for 04.

As for mpfarout saying the 04 gets the Gen IV motor, NOT TRUE that's going into the C6!

It wouldn't surprise me that at the Chicago show they have a Z-16!

Id be happy with one of those options. About time GM decides to take a little wind out of the Viper's sail.

I read that post on Corvette Forum too... sounds credible and all, but I was confused how the person wouldn't know what SHALE (50th anniversary interior color) was...

Unless, of course, it was meant as sarcasm or something

FWIW I pulled this out of the time capsule as instructed. Seems to fit.

After you read this it is not necessary to respond; only because it is not factual...just rumor. Nevertheless, this info has again arrived from the same source who said in 1999 that the LS6 was going into a new Corvette named Z06 in 2001. The same source stated that 2002 was the demise of the f-body at least one year before we first heard it. Lastly, in January 2001 (6 months before GM officially made an announcement) the source indicated a 20 HP jump for the LS6. So here goes: what is currently called an LS1 will be called an L68...368 cubes, 6 liter, 400hp, 390 lb/ft torque.
what is currently called an LS6 will be called and LS7....392 cubes, 6.4 liter, 450hp, 440 lb/ft torque.
Simply file this post in a time capsule and open it in about 18 months.

that would be awesome if GM did stroke out the LS1/6, and then offered the crank, rods, pistons, etc for a relatively cheap price in the GM Perf Parts cataloge... Plus the supporting hardware and the programming that "just so happens" to pass an OBDII scan too.....

Interesting!

LS1 becomes L68, I thought LS2 would have been better, oh well.

I'm 95% sure the LS6 will become LS7.
