Exclamation Lexus Hybrid explodes?

I just seen it, but I can't seem to find a link to the story. Apparently the thing exploded, and some big time Dr. is in critical condition from it! Reports from people in the area said it was felt a mile away. Sorry no link, but I'm still looking. If yall can find it post it up, it'd make an interesting topic! Something tells me that IF this was a GM vehicle, the story would be everywhere!

Interesting that the explosion seems to have happened up front under the hood. The component you'd initially suspect, the batteries, are located in the rear (even though NiMH batteries don't have the same thermal issues lithium-based batteries do). I'm not sure what would be under the hood of that hybrid that would be any more explosive than a normal car.

Yeah IDK what's under the hood in that area, but I was wondering the same thing. Any members have one, go look and report back! I was hoping to find more info, but so far nothing new yet that I've found! If this was GM there would be plenty more info out there about it, and this story would be a never ending bonanza for the media.

Another reason I don't want massive battery packs in my car. I'll take IC engines for 1000 alex!

Now they're saying it's a bomb. Although I still stand by my IC engine comment.

UPDATE: Both the West Memphis, Arkansas police and the ATF have confirmed it was in fact a bomb, not the fault of the hybrid or non-hybrid system

I think that something is wrong because there's already 650 articles all over the nation about this including all of the major national TV and web outlets.

If this was just a car bomb and nobody was worried about it being a potential defect in the car this probably would've barely made a blip on the media radar.

It totally sucks this happened and I pray the guy will be OK.

With that said, I was hoping it was caused by a vehicle malfunction.

It sounds like he sustained a lot of damage to his face. He lost one eye. They had to inflate the other one. He has a broken wrist and another broken bone (can't remember which) and multiple bruises and lacerations all over his body.
But they made it sound like his face took the brunt of the blast.

Hearing all this, it sounds like there may have been a package in front of his car, he bent down to look at it or pick it up, and it exploded.
