Lightbulb Let's define Camaro competitor

As per Z284ever's thread http://web.camaross.com/forums/showt...threadid=94587

Let's hear what makes a vehicle a competitor.

My view is pretty vague. If it's fast, looks appealing, relatively cheap and all around fun, it's a competitor. Wether or not it's FWD, a 2 seater, V6, etc. Hell, I'd even consider a Dakota RT as a competitor.

What do you guys think?

Jeff

Fast mid-full size sports car (AWD/RWD) between 22-30k. I think as long as its capable of running mid 14s and faster, its a competitor.

Previous competitors have included cars such as:

Ford Probe (I won't even bother naming that other Ford car)
Mercury Cougar
Mitsubishi Eclipse
Eagle Talon (basicaly the same car, I know)

I'm not sure if I would include 2 seaters. Of course you could say that the 2 seats in the rear of the Camaro have been pretty useless. O course that would apply to Mustange as well.

Any car within the 20k-30k price range, that can hit the 1/4 in low 14's. The closer it is to a 2+2 mid-full size sports car, the more relavent it is..

Pretty much what i had in mind, as close to 2+2 as possible .

350Z
G35 coupe

Z28/SS - RWD, 4 seats, mid 14's or faster, coupe, under $34K

base V6 - coupe, over 200HP, $18K-$25K, (RWD,FWD,or AWD) sporty look

I also think any real fast sub $34K car could steal Camaro sales (not many, but some) rides like the Lightning, Dokota R/T, SRT-4, and WRX

Sure, why not. 24000 and mid 14s quarter mile times.Sure it may be a sedan, but its a good performer from what i can tell atleast. It may not fit directly into the sports car genre, but id say it is close enough to hurt Camaro sales.

I agree. WRX would definately intrude on Camaro sales, especially on young buyers who have bought into the import tuner scene. Its a stout car at a good price which can easily be made faster for a small amount of money.

I think a WRX is a much closer Camaro competitor than the little 2-seat cute-roadsters like the Miata and possible next gen RX7 would be (which in another thread a couple people claim are Camaro competitors )

So, you don't think that someone shopping for a Camaro would be interested in another 2 door, RWD coupe with 250-280 hp and a $30K price tag.

Sure do, if it's got 4 seats and a halfway useable storage area like a Camaro. I don't buy the fact that there's a ton of people out there who would so easily give up the practicality of a back seat if that is what they want, or be willing to look at a 4 seater if they have their heart set on a small roadster....

I don't know about that. Even though they are 2+2's, back in my youth (the 1980's) the Z's and RX-7's were typically considered competitors to the Corvette. Of course this was back in the day when the imports were mainly two seaters.

I still would say the Z is Vette competition. Pretty much the only Camaro competitor I see today is the Mustang.

Maybe we need to re-ask the question... Where is the Mustang's competition?
