"the last ride" 5th GEN CAMARO INFO!!!

ok, so im cruising the streets of down town san diego yesterday when me and a buddy cross the convention center, i basicly jump out of my seat when i see 6 AWSOME looking gto's (older modles) and a couple of sting rays. so i yell to my buddy to pull over so we can see them closer, so he makes a left turn and tries to go around from the back and to my suprise there is a room FILLED WITH GTOS!!!!!!!!!! OMFG!!! im thinking, this is FREAKING AWSOME. there. so we get out and talk to one of the guys who is setting the place up. he then explains that they are filming the movie "the last ride". he says that there are 127 gtos in there and that the story revolves around that car. he then explains that the scene is set up to look like a car show and the center peice of the car show is the 2004 gto. the main charector then steals the car and busts through glass and gets away. it was one of the most awsome moments for me ever. he even said that there where about 5 judge modles and one of them as 27 ORIGINAL MILES ON IT!!!.

ok now heres the real good part.
the guy then says that pontiac has lended them about all the cars and are promoting the movie. i then asked if he had any inider info on the camaro, he told us that the camaro IS indeed comming back and that a PROTOTYPE DOES EXIST!!! he said it might be revealed as early as november. i then asked him about the plans of mustang and and some other cars including the trans am. unfortunetly he said that there are NO plans to bring back the firebird at all and its only the camaro for now.he did say though that if there was enough demand for it then GM, like the camaro, will be brought back. lastly he did confirm the "retro" look of the camaro saying it will look more like the older 1st gen.

IS THAT AWSOME OR WHAT!!!

We kinda knew all that already. I'm just hoping it's not a retro car.

who is this "guy" that you talked too? Not flaming you, just wanted to know if he was some grip or a Pontiac rep.

the part about the Camaro is pure BS IMHO. But I can't wait to see the made for TV movie. It was orginally going to be called GTO, but they changed it to the Last Ride.

Sounds like it's going to be a great movie.

That's what I REALLY miss about San Diego. There's alot of cool things that happen down there, from movie shoots, to prototypes driving around, to car magazines taking yet to be released cars on road tests, to car companies car brochure shoots.... oh, and the simply AWESOME block parties at the "Gaslamp".

As far as what the guy said about the Camaro, don't believe it. You talked to " one of the guys who was setting the place up", not a Chevy brand manager, GM engineer, or even a components subcontractor or a relevent car plant manager or or union rep (all who would about now be working on or drawing up plans in preparation for, or have collegues who would know anything about the new Camaro).

The absolute, "I don't believe it", "make guionM's jaw drop" earliest we'd see anything Camaro would be next year's auto show season. More realistically, I'd expect to see it in the 2006 season at the earliest.

i have no idea who the guy was or how he was associated with pontiac/gm. all i know was that there where pontiac banners, cars, and reps all over the place setting it up (guys in pontiac logo shirts in the middle of the night). the guy also said he was going to be in the movie as a mechanic that fixes the gto. anyways the reason it got me all excited is that he was also talking about the new mustang and judge models aswell as the camaro information EXACTLY as we have been discussing on the board. so either he is visiting this board (which i doubt he does) or he is a damn good liar or he knows some insider secrets. it wouild be kinda strange if he was BSing it all coz everything else he said was pretty acurate.

not trying to spread BS if it is BS (which im betting its not) just trying to tell you about the experience i had the other day which basicly agrees with all the rumors that we have been having. it might all be BS but its still kinda fun to hear!!!

I won’t call a total “BS” on you. I had a lady at the auto show tell me some pretty accurate info about two years ago a according to what little we knew then. She was one of those people who shouldn’t have known anything but did. Though she did claim to know Red Planet and sit next to him on the plane ride down to Dallas. Who knows.

Yeah, I hope that you're right and the Camaro comes back.
But I'd be mad if it were retro because the Mustang is now retro. So we'll look like the poser copycats and we'll have to admit that Ford is GOD over GM.

he told me when it was comming out but i forgot wasent the most important thing of the conversation if you know what i meen as far as the retro look, let me go back and say an exact quote of what he said "GM is going back to the older car style looks, back to its roots" i think its pretty accurate coz soposedly we do know that its gonna have traits of the first gen camaro.

This will sound dumb, but if the Camaro comes back, will the Firebird come back with it?
