LaCrosse Super?

Wall Street Journal

ORLANDO, Fla. -- General Motors Corp. (GM) announced some additions and subtractions to its Pontiac and Buick lines to dealers here a few days after its sales chief vowed a "renaissance" for the two model lines.

Buick will get an "uplevel version" of the Buick LaCrosse sedan that will include new exterior trim and a new engine, Buick spokesman David Darovitz confirmed Tuesday. He said no price has been decided.

It sounds like they are trying to polish a terd. Sorry I just dislike the LaCrosse that much.

Make a Buick Lucerne Super, and I would be all into that!

Re: LaCrosse Super?

Saw a Lucerne today and it didn't look right at all. Waaaaay too Lexus like...for me atleast.

This is interesting though. So maybe we will see a Velite-grilled Lacrosse after all?

I'm with you, just can't warm up to it, especially after driving a supercharged, Regal GS with sport suspension and twin-piston calipers etc,etc.......'like the wheels tho......
Maybe it'll replace Lacrosse, just call it a Super...or Special.

Re: LaCrosse Super?

why all the hate against the lucerne its a DTS for a LOT less money. and it is incredibly comfortable and quiet. And its going up against Lexus so maybe thats why it looks closer to a lexus than say... a vette. Although i do think at times it can look a little bit off but its still a nice car. (im trying to convince my dad to sell his 04 ES330 and buy a lucerne... hes like no.

I'm looking forward to it. It'll be a good addition to the Buick portfolio.

No. A LaCrosse with a 5.3, different grill/trim, 18" wheels.

No hate for the Lucerne here. I, for one, think it is a very spiffy ride.

Re: LaCrosse Super?

GM needs to start thinking "why" as opposed to "why not" when coming up with new models. Sure, the LaCrosse Super is easy, given that the Impala SS and GP GXP have the mechanics, but why does Buick need it when Pontiac is in the same showroom.

Why? Because the Super will have portholes.

Because the Lacrosse is getting a small exterior refresh and this is a good way to introduce it to the lineup, plus if there is a 30% take rate on GP GXPs and the Impala SS is so popular why not see if it works for Buick?

You're using their logic. I understand the thinking, and don't get me wrong, the car might do well. The problem is that the car will be mechanically identical to the GP GXP, a car in the same showroom. Why not give Pontiac a version of the Lucerne?

It WON'T be mechanically identical though. The Impala SS already uses a softer suspension and less expensive brakes. I belive the Buick would be even softer tuned and with laminated glass and other quiet tuning enhancements it will fell like a 100% different car. Charlie has noted how large different in feel is between the Impala SS vs GP GXP. So why not throw something with excitement into Buick. Sport lux is the rage right now in the car world, even in the compact segment (Mazda speed 3 anyone?).

Basically it is NOT the same car an it won't steal any sales of the GP GXP, maybe Impala SS but not the harsher GXP.
