The 2008 LaCrosse 3.6L is rated at 17/25...and that is a lighter car with 40 less HP
2008 Buick Lucerne 3.8L is rated at 16/25
2008 Acura RL 3.5L is rated at 16/24
2008 Audi A6 AWD 3.1L is rated at 17/25

So the 2010 puts out pretty good numbers for a car of this size and HP.

The smaller (190") Buick Regal should get about the same mileage as the Malibu when equipped with the 2.4L 6speed combo, 22/33mpg

The fuel economy of the LaCrosse doesn't change between the FWD and AWD models? I mean the specs don't mention a change but they don't really specify there is no change, either.

FWIW the 2009 Audi A6 AWD 3.0t is 18/26 with 300hp, 310tq.

LaCrosse seems a bit fat.

On the other hand, according to Autoblog (who, like everyone else, has just posted their first drive of the new RX350), the new 2010 RX350 and RX450h are gaining something like 400 lbs too, compared to the current model.

Seems that weight is a struggle for many.

The good news on the battle against weight is that if hybrids are the future for all cars, weight tends to matter much less in determining fuel economy when you're dealing with a hybrid. Not to say it doesn't matter at all with fuel economy, and not to say it doesn't still affect plenty of other things like acceleration, handling, braking, etc... but at least fuel economy suffers less.

I sure am glad that they canceled North American Zeta in favor of lightweight F/AWD cars.
Yea... that 1mpg difference reason was a really dumb excuse. Personally, I didn't buy it and some others have mentioned that it wasn't even the real reason.

If GM had simply said "we don't have the money to set up an all new supply network related to an all new chassis that will sell in massive volume", although it was only one factor, at least it would be easier to digest.

FWIW: GM "officially" simply kicked the can down the street on Zeta. The full size RWD sedan program isn't officially dead. I'll post a bit of this in another thread.

Hopefully RWD can be resurrected in some form for future (as opposed to current) product.

This car didn't deserve the bitterness in my first posting, as it looks first rate. I'm sure the added weight is for 5-star safety, that "bank vault" feeling (something I never got from a W), and all the new features. F/AWD in a luxury car is exactly what Buick needs to compete against the ES350, and it should give them a good shot against Acura and Audi too, though that will take time.

Simply breathtaking! Absolutely beautiful. Buick has built a better Lexus.

I wouldn't be surprised if Mike Simcoe had a hand in its design - a very clean look.

At one point in history, we're going to look back at Ed Welburn and group him in with Alfred Sloan and Harley Earl.

Ed's designs are just stunning for their time, especially with the box he works within due to the advent of crash standards and CAFE (design affected by gas mileage requirements).

If Wagoner survives at GM, he owes a lot to Lutz and Welburn.

I sure would love to see what he could do in a booming economy if given a car that would sell for Enzo or Carrera GT type prices.

First thing I did was CTRL-F and search for "curb weight". This thing is a beast.

EDIT: Are they scared to release photos of the front of hte car?

It's almost impossible to imagine that the Lacrosse is an Opel Insignia clone ... it looks so Lexus like.

2009 Acura RL is 16/22, though the somewhat larger TL AWD is 17/25.
2009 Lucerne 3.9 is 17/26.
2009 Genesis 3.8 is 18/27.

The Buicks and Hyundai use regular. The Acuras use premium.

Because it's not. The LaCrosse is an all-new design. The Buick Regal is an Opel Insignia rebadge.
