LA auto show thread
Re: LA auto show thread
What's your point? That something brand new is going to attract more attention than something that's been out for a while? Get right outta town!Want to speculate about how much attention was given to the Corvette vs. the Mustang at a given show when the C6 debuted, while the current production (and about to be replaced) '04 Cobra was on display at the Ford booth? Or how much attention was given to the Z06 or the ZR1 when they made their debut?
The new Camaro was slathered with attention when it made its debut. Three years from now, it won't get nearly the same attention. The press is there to cover NEWS. A carryover model (like the current Corvette lineup) isn't news. A new model (like the Boss Mustang or the Camaro convertible) is news.
A new Honda Accord (or whatever) is pretty big news in the auto world, and it is covered as such. How much press coverage does an Accord get in the subsequent years prior to a redesign? That said, the new Vette needs to get here sooner rather than later. But a lack of attention by the press isn't really all that alarming given that it's a carryover year.

Re: LA auto show thread
To be somewhat fair, the C6 has been out since 2005. The most recent SE was the Z06 Carbon and that was debuted early this year. Even though the Corvette is a great car, I personally wouldn't spend all that much time looking at it because there are a lot of other cars that I haven't really seen yet, like the Camaro. Wouldn't say that makes it irrelevant, just familiar. Makes sense that press wouldn't spend much time around it because there isn't really anything new to report.
But if a bunch of the public are looking at it this topic is largely moot.

Re: LA auto show thread

The press (and enthusiasts who managed to get passes) is jaded. The public ... not so much. It doesn't surprise me that the press preview wasn't interested in the Corvette -- there is nothing new for 2011. They've already sat in Corvettes, and many have driven press fleet cars.
The Boss Mustang is new. It's gonna get a lot more looks.
But when the public goes to the show, they'll want to check out the Corvette, even if the 2011 model looks just like the 2010 model.
