Its the British-English spelling - and perfectly valid that has been in use since before this country existed. The rest of the world spells a lot of words differently than we do.

Care to elaborate? I'm honestly curious what happened. I had been rather satisfied with their tire (Kumho ecsta MX) on my Quattro Audi. The TireRack rep told me to do wheel alignment after installing tires, since they are sensitive to uneven wear. I did that, and those tires are serving me well - they don't cost an arm and a leg, and provide decent traction.

When I upgraded to 19" rims, i just went with GoodYear Eagle F1, which were actually softer despite having a much smaller sidewall.

Good equipment can make run flats and low profile almost make runflats and regular low pros a non issue but these are going to be tough even on the right size rim.
Again depends, I've mostly worked with Michelin tires and even thier low profile and runflat stuff isn't bad (Goodyear and Bridgestone on the other hand - stiff as [censored] when it comes to runflat sidewalls)

The only case where I've run into real problems is with (generally aftermarket and mostly BMW) wheels where the offset damn near made them a reverse drop wheel (that deep dish people are crazy about).

Now I cant say I remeber working with a 2.25" sidewall on anything, but the closest I can remeber is about 3.25" on a 205/40R16 BFG Scorcher (IIRC or maybe it was a Euro, its been awhile).

Cant say anything about PAX stuff, if you mess with that I'll take your word for it.

I've done a lot of Goodyears. They aren't a problem but you do have to be careful with them. None of them are fun though.

A few years back when the 710 first came out I bought a set for autox. The tires performed well but Kuhmo sent me a notice that they were being recalled. They sent me a letter stating that, for my troubles and for the cost of mounting and balancing they would send me a free set of 700 Victoracers and the upgraded 710's when they came out. I thought that was a very nice deal. So 3 weeks after I received the letter I called Tirerack to get my new tires and was informed Kuhmo was not doing that deal anymore. So I called Kuhmo and they flat out refused to give me my new tires that they promised to me. I did eventually get my new 710's from them but never the 700's that I was promised by them in writing.
Since then I have went through about 20-25 sets of Hoosiers for my Camaro. I have also turned on many fellow autoxers to Hoosier and steered them away from Kuhmo. My Dodge Ram and Civic also received new tires and they sure as hell were not Kuhmo.
