If you are going to post something, at least get your facts straight. Ford has gained 9% in the global market over the past quarter and had 3 quarters of increased sales shares. Their profits have been nearly 1 billion over the past 3 quarters.
I knew that someone would distort this whole thing when I read about it in MM&FF a few months ago. There are 3 seperate runs of Cobra with a one month or so break between production to do production line maintainence and other issues. The break was planned before it went in production. Suddenly BON comes out with some made up crap (Like Robert Lane has never done it before) and all the GM idiots on this site come out in droves like a ***** to a ***** factory. Some of you guys in this thread are total morons who need to get educated before you open your mouths (not speaking of the person in this post, just some of the other dumb asses). Ford changed the IRS, put in a 6spd, redesigned the whole engine and did other tweaks before releasing this car. Yeah, they didn't change anything
I have heard of no engine problems, almost no customer complaints and no reliability problems. Robert Lane can't even support his statements. If that God Damn retarded piece of **** had even done any research before opening his stupid fu<king mouth then he would have known what was going on. But since Ford sued his *** he has been on a vendetta.
The pause in production was planned months ago before production started. There will be another pause before the 3rd wave hits.
And some of our members should actually learn about Ford before looking like some retards.

I don't really trust BON either.
Actually I'm not too sure what to believe right now. There's a thread over on LS1.com:
http://www.ls1.com/forums/showthread...ighlight=cobra production&pagenumber=1
This one has a lot of Ford-bashing and a couple cute puns about "blown" Cobras, and one guy toward the end says it's an intercooler problem. Consensus, FWIW, seems to be there are genuine quality problems holding up production. Then there's this thread from stangnet:
http://forums.stangnet.com/showthrea...hreadid=233622
This one is all over the map. One guy who ordered an 03 Cobra states his wife got an email from the Ford dealer:
So we shall see. I'm kind of bummed since I do feel Mustang success will bolster 5gen Camaro's business case. Hope it works out ok. But Ford has GOT to fix their quality problems.

Yesterday my Cobra was supposed to be built in Dearborn.
The dealer began to do the paperwork today and my wife gets an email from them to tell us that Cobra production has ceased due to quality problems. Production won't start until 12/02/02 at least. WTF!!!
She calls the dealer and they told her that the Ford Inventory Mgr called informing my dealer of this. I checked with Blue Oval News (Ford's internet thorn in their side) - The website confirms the story.
I follow up with a call to SVT - The rep who picked up the phone seems to be honest and truthful. He tells me that Ford suspected a quality problem in Mid October and stopped production + withheld delivery of manufactured Cobras. While they checked out the possible problem, Ford scheduled a run of Japanese Stangs. Ford found no problem at all and is ready to start up production again but has to wait until the Japan run is done. Production of Cobras will resume on 11/11/02. No problem was found with the SC4.6.
Please let it be true !!!

What makes the Cobra the exception to the "new cars might have a few glitches" rule is my question? The whole powertrain has been revised and in some areas it's all new. Every little problem is over-sensationalized by guys in the GM camps. Pretty Funny if you ask me. You know this is true
.
Anyone remember Column Locks on the A4 and piston slaps on the Ls-1 c5's vettes. GM never did anything about that did they? it's compeletly "normal" was their reponse.

Seems pretty confirmed to me:

I realize that Blue Oval News can be as reliable as World Weekly News sometimes but it seems there is truth to it...
Now as far as "overexaggerating" every Ford flaw, I have to disagree. If Ford didn't give people major problems to worry about in the past, people wouldn't be so critical. There was a huge front page Sunday story in Detroit about all of the Focus's problems, the '99 Cobra is still fresh in a lot of minds, and the list goes on...I don't think it's just mindless finger pointing, there are justifiable causes for concern. "New engine" wrinkles happen on a lot of cars, no doubt about it but when you're Ford, with all of your past problems, and now you want to supercharge a V8 from the factory well then I would think you better extensively test every part possible on that car. Wait until 2004 to release it if you have to. It saves you from more embarrassment. RE5.0, LS1 piston slap has been reported on internet sites, I've read a couple stories but I honestly haven't seen a technical article or media criticism on it anywhere. If you come up with one I'd really like to read it. Thanks.

Quality issues most likely ARE the reason Cobra production has stopped. Why plan a production gap? The only reason I can even think of is maybe to allow for Mach I production to come up to speed faster or something... but I think that is a stretch.
I think some overzealous Ford Fans are trying to make excuses for Ford on this... kind of ironic, becuase it's the opposite of the "All GM Guys bash Ford whenever there is a little glitch" theory!

If me saying "a 1st year car (there have been substantial revisions and additions) could have a few glitches" comes off as an excuse to you, i don't know what to think. I'm sorry if the New Cobra let alot of you "GM" faithfuls down. I'm sorry if i or others didn't have as high expectation for the 2003 being "perfect" as some of the GM guys.
Z28Wilson, i agree with your points. I'm just saying, we don't even know what the problem or issue is. We're basing this on assumtions. It could be something small or something big. We dont' know the details. A few "minor" glitches could be excusable since it is common in many new models. Something like the 99 problem was far from minor. Some here are treating this as a repeat.

Come on, allot of the GM fans seemed throughly happy. We don't even know what the issue is but that didn't keep assumptions from being posted on "every" single GM board.

I'm saying the whole "planned stoppage" excuse was nothing but BS.
And a FIFTY horsepower 'droppage' is rather major in my book.

I am sorry but people called the F-body a POS a long time...but I don't recall Ste.Therese being shut down for month because of "a quality issue that happens all the time"...

I called the author of that story and he saidit was in no way shape or form a planned stop. Ford has hundreds of Cobra's that they are holding back because of this issue. Also the article states that the line was stopped two weeks ago and the problem has been fixed, but they won;t resume production untill 11/12?
