Glad I couldn't afford one..these may depriciate now as bad as the 99 Cobra. Seems Ford can't get the Cobra right..yet it's the F-bord that gets the rap for quality issues.

Here is the article..

I am not surprised at all... or maybe I am.

You'd think after past prolems , they'd be sure to get it right.

Sad.

So what is the actual problem? I figured something like this would happen.

Unhappy

There has BEEN a problem with cat-temps, O2 sensors, and fuel administration. Remember the infamous thread about the lady who took her Cobra Vert in for servicing and the SVT mechanic took it for a joyride at 140mph then posted about it on the web? That was why she took it in for servicing... cats and fuel probs.

They aren't exploding or anything, but it sounds like the exhaust temps and cat restrictions are getting higher than expected in some cars. Supposedly you can FEEL a loss in power... from 390 to what 350?!?! If it were my money, I'd make 'em fix it too. I wonder if the Bassani aftermarket hi-flow cat system would fix it? It has already been released. If so, I'd be knocking on their door if I were Ford right now!

there are no fbody's to compete with and they STILL cant get it right. And I thought that the Cobra Streak was finished, lol, for troubled cobras, this actually looked good.

But damn, sucks for ford. Pony Car Gods

Isnt this a bit ironic though, Fbodies are no longer produced, and the irony hits the Oval boys too. hehe.

I wonder how bad this problem gets in Modified 03 Cobras. I am sure a smaller pulley would put more pressure on on the o2's and everything else in the system.

I just cannot believe that they dropped the ball yet again. Aren't these the kinds of things that should be caught during extensive testing of the prototypes? Or was Ford in such a rush job to get this thing out that their quality reputation came second.....yet again?

So much for F-body buyers jumping over to the blue oval.

Hmmm, maybe Pontiac should speed up GTO production.

Ahh that makes me feel good. I thought they were just out and out going to win this round but it looks like they're gonna take at least a jab to the face. I can't believe they didn't test the hell outta these things with the supercharger and all. Ford couldn't get their NA 4.6 right why would they be able to get the SC right? Maybe they should just stick to performance cars they can handle, like the Focus SVT.

I don't think this is as major as the 99 fiasco...

how do you define 'major'?

It is bad enough to stop production... that is pretty major in my book.

In all seriousness, the Focus SVT is garbage. They need to step up and sell the Focus RS. This thing is kind of sweet. Turbo (AWD) is always nice.

As for the 03 cobras. I wasn't supprised. I saw some dog slow 03 cobras. So when I saw this it was like seeing your place of employment.

The 2000 model year was canceled, but the 2001 and 2002 Cobra models have been generally trouble free.
Credible.

BON is a tabloid, I don't believe anything I read on that POS site.

Let me go check reliability on the 2002 Cobra.

yeah, they really need to work on these problems before production.

But, i feel that some are singling the cobra out waiting for it's every little flaw. It's a 1st year model with a new engine, tranny, etc... Same with 99's when they were new. Bugs are common when dealing with new 1st year models.

Seems a little drastic.......

....I know the engine management program for the LS1 includes a fuel enrichment table for cat-over-temp that basically adds fuel at high load/rpms to keep the cats cool.

Sounds like they are running a little too lean at the top end.......can't figure out why they'd stop production for what seems like a simple fix
