just a thought GTO into a new 442?
Just think of it...I know Olds is making its swan song in a few days but what if someone who really had enough $$$ to get a new GTO take it apart, design a Olds front end, give it some Olds touches in the car and body, a 442 wing of old and the final touch give it the Olds 442 Hurst color and striping..
and voila the final tribute to Olds..the 2005 442

would be nice... 442's were awesome. In fact, my dads street machine back in the day was a 442. car had 225k miles when he saw it last with the original tranny and motor... after all the racing he did with it
it will never happen though

The 4-4-2 changed with time. IT ment 4bbl carb, 4spd trans, Dual exhaust. They did make a FWD 4-4-2 in the early 90's that had a 200+hp quad 4 i belive? So you had 4cyl, 4spd(auto) and dua exit exhaust.
I dont know of anyone making the GTO into a 442 because of the limited avalibilty of the GTO. Cool idea, but would cost a lot to do I would think.
Maybe make some turbo 3.8's and sell it as a GN for Buick?

yea there have been many 442 incarnations..in the Acheiva 442 I think with the quad 4..
but yea I was just thinking these SEMA guys..would be a cool thing to do...just to be diffrent..

Oldsmobile (though debateably the most focused division with the highest quality from GM in the past decade) has pretty much been a sales disaster. GM killed Olds over Buick because Buick had buyer loyalty (and sales) which Olds didn't.
Notice that all the daydreaming about Oldsmobile on this thread is for cars from the 1960s and the begining of the 1970s.
Though you're reaching back 34 years or so to praise Oldsmobile, no ones saying anything about Aurora, or the 88, or Alero.
AMC & Plymouth also made some great cars too 34 years ago, but neither is around today.
i really doubt it. the 442 was a fast car, but it wasn't as widely known as the gto. so the effect on todays market place would be subtle. most old men will vaguely remember it and the kids of today will have no clue.

not true guionM
I could of been talking about the 442 from the 80's

the new old are great, I thought there was going to be a performance version of the cars comming out about 5 years ago. I saw them in the SEMA stuff in mags..looked promising kinda like the REDLINE stuff Saturn has...

If you really want a 442 version, why don't you contact http://www.alohadreamcars.com/
They're already making a Chevelle version, and I'm sure if you threw enough $$$$ their way, they might consider doing a one off Olds version.
