Just saw my first new Camaro
Hmmmm
As I pointed out in another thread, I think my Trailblazer SS interior is WAAAAAAy better than the Camaro's interior. Ouch!

. Personally I like the interior, but then again I could careless about it as it doesn't get the ladies as the exterior does. I'm pretty sure you could do a G8 conversion though... I remeber the F-body's could take alot of GTO pieces in the interior.
Already thinking of conversions

^^ And its the kind of style the car should've had in the first place! THEN I'd pony up the funds for a new SS...
But like I said, for me, a semi-ugly interior is a lot easier to swallow on a $25k V6 than a $35k SS...

Further, GM didn't take a risk, They copied ford's plan 100% retro pony car with retro interior, only they did it 5 years late (!!!!!!) Unfortunately, ford blindsided them by coming out with a tasteful modern redesign of the mustang interior just in time to make the camaro look exactly like the gimmick design that it is.
No, no they wouldn't have. If the G8/malibu interior was in the 5th gen, no one would have complained. Not even the people who love the retro interior because let's face it, if they love the retro interior, they simply love camaro and would have bought a malibu if it had camaro badges on it anyway.

Maybe I'll change my mind after I drive one, spending 30min+ behind the wheel gives you a good feel for a car.
I disagree, I think the G8, Malibu, and even Cruze interior people would call it too plain.
I base that opinion on the fact that the 04-06 GTO has a near universally lauded interior despite many not liking the looks of the car No one says, the GTO is a boring looking car on the outside with a plain, boring interior to go with it. Nope, the plain interior is practically the car's main selling point. (as an aside, The lack of available NAV and auto HVAC were its only achilles heel compared to the import sports coupes, and there goes GM making the same mistake on it's 30k+ camaro SS.)
I currently own two first gen Camaros and I don't consider the new Camaro interior as retro as some. Its nowhere near as old school as either of my '67s. In fact the only part I have issues with is the center radio/controls layout. The rest looks fine imho, however I have yet to sit inside one myself.
Maybe, but i believe that is only because they've seen the 5th gen and have accustomed themselves to it. IMO, if the original 5th gen concept had the malibu interior in it, people would have been crowing about it just as much if not more.

Ok, so it probably just my taste given the comments above, but I've got say that I really like the Camaro interior, much moreso than the Mustang. To me, the Mustang is far too busy. The Camaro seems much more simple, purposeful. I don't get the complaints on the materials either. I actually really like the base car's interior better than the loaded up GT. My preference when ordering is going to be black cloth with the leather steering wheel upgrade.
That being said, a few months ago when I had the opportunity to spend some time in a pre-production 2010 GT, I was sold on the Mustang, not having been impressed with pictures of the Camaro interior and reading the so-so reviews. Now after actually getting the opportunity to sit in a Camaro, Mustang, and a Challenger at the same car show within minutes of one another, I'd actually rank the Mustang last, both exterior and interior. I felt much more at home in the Camaro.
The only minor concern I noted was the effort it took to move the seat forward to get in the back ... and the obvious compromise for the trunk opening. Can live with both given it will be mainly my daily driver to work and not the family hauler except for fun trips.
