Just saw a Ford Mondeo in TX

I was driving on Highway 6 to get my copy of GTA Vice City and a goldenish Ford Mondeo drove past me, unfortunately i was on the center lane and he was going pretty fast, it look at first like a focus but more exotic till i realized what it was, and i caught a glimpse of the badging on the rear sure enough it said Mondeo, i couldn't really get a good look at the plates, but i could have sworn they had paper plates (don't flame) i would have turned around to see who was in it etc, but he was going pretty fast and i know i wouldn't have caught up so i let it go... anyone know anything i don't oh yeah it looked pretty good (the headlights almost projector like)

The new-generation Ford Mondeo is currently available in Mexico.
Why does Ford of Mexico sell the current European Mondeo? It really beats me. Anyway, good spotting of a cross-border curiosity.

I saw one when I was in South Padre this summer as well. You will see alot of those newer Dodge Ram Chargers as well down there. Hell, I see alot of them here in Dallas. I think both of these vehicles would sell in the States, not sure why Ford and Dodge don't offer them here.

Come to San Diego, and you'll see them along with those mini VWs (Polo?) pretty often. They are sold in Mexico as Redzed pointed out.

There's quite a few cars from down that way (many sold in Europe, and not many other places) that make me stop & look around here.

I guess there are alot of issues that manufacturers have to take into account. In the case of the Mondeo, the fact that the Contour was such a big flop probably detered Ford from taking on the additional homologation costs for sale in the U.S. Besides, the Mazda 6 will soon form the basis of a similarly sized Contour/Taurus replacement.

In the case of the Mexico-only Ramcharger, that design was never intended for export to the U.S. The Ramcharger was 2wd only, and was originally intended to compete with the Mexican-produced 2-door Tahoe. With the complete disappearance of the full sized 2-door SUV, and the impending appearance of the new Ram, exportation wasn't justifiable.
