Just realized something funny about Lincoln..

Despite being able to picture every car in their line up in my head..outside of Navigator..I can't think of any of their actual names. I know they are all MK......something?

I am sure that was not the idea Ford had when doing this?

I don't really follow Mercedes and could tell you the alpha numeric name of any car.

I think that is the point though. BMW/Mercedes owners/buyers just say they have a BMW/Mercedes and not C320.

We have a winner.

IIRC that's why Cadillac went that route as well.

Not with the BMW, or Audi. They're the easiest to follow.

Acura? A bit of a tough time, though I can do it (TSX, TL, RL, RDX, MDX).

I even learned Mercedes' C-class, E-class, and S-class. Anything beyond is just not doable, and is actually retarded IMO.

Lincoln? Complete blank.

Mercedes and Lincoln are both atrocious and are the worst. Cadillac is not too far behind.

I like the BMW naming convention the most. Everyone knows what a 1,3,5,6,7 series is, then the rest describes engine, drive wheels and anything else special.

BMW used to make sense when a 2.8L car was a 328. Now a 328 has a 3.0L and a 335 has a turbo 3.0L

Wanna hear something even funnier?

The new MKS now will suck the lights out of an LT1 Camaro and will keep up with the LS1 till both pass 60.

Not bad for a 2 ton car being moved by a turbo V6.

But I agree with you about the names.

They aren't memorable.

And RWD isn't just RWD, it's sDrive! It's sporty, see! sDrive!

Bob: "Hey, Steve, you got that little BMW convertible thingy!"

Steve, "Why yes, that's my new BMW Z4 sDrive 23i!"

Bob: "Yeah, the little BMW convertible."

Have to agree about Lincoln - when people who post on automotive boards can barely keep track of your naming scheme, its a problem.

Why is the big car "S" and the little car "Z"? It seems backwards.

IMHO, the problem is where the odd letter lands in the name. Caddy changes the first letter, which is easier to remember (CTS, DTS, STS, ect.). Lincoln changes the last letter (MKZ, MKS, etc.), which is more difficult to recall.

If they have to have an "MK" scheme..why not do it using numbers. MKII being small, and MKX being large. That being said..I don't know whats wrong with real names. MKS would make an excellent Continental. Just because the imports do it does not mean it's best.

Then again some of us ol' LT1 guys can play the forced induction game too.

We haven't been sitting around idle twiddling our thumbs all these years you know.
